That just b/c someone claims to love you doesn't mean they do. If someone loves you, it should feel that way.

Intention does not negate impact.

Family should treat you better than others, not worse.

Forgiveness does not equal reconciliation.

It's better to focus on what you have vs what you don't.

Other people's expectations do not equal your obligations.

'No' is a full sentence.

Don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm.

'Respect' and 'obey' are two completely different things.

You can't be everything to everyone. You won't be liked by everyone. But that's okay, b/c you don't like everyone anyway.

Listen to your gut.

Love this, thank you x

Your dad was very wise Calmlocket.
What a great saying.

Thankyou timetogo2016, even after all these years I miss him.

I am enough.

boheminan Sun 07-Nov-21 19:56:12

actually, living on my own was great

Ohmother Sun 07-Nov-21 20:06:07

Intimacy ( not just sex) with the right person can make your heart fly. ?

Skydancer Sun 07-Nov-21 20:08:41

You will never change anyone.

kircubbin2000 Sun 07-Nov-21 20:10:44

That a lot of men thought I was very attractive. I was too shy to notice or do anything about it.

grannyrebel7 Sun 07-Nov-21 20:12:01

Life is for living.
Hope springs eternal.
Forgive & forget.

That it's OK to be you with all your quirks and idiosincracies. That's what makes you special and interesting.

GagaJo Sun 07-Nov-21 20:53:54

What other people think about you is irrelevant.

Don't hold on to bitterness. It allows those that have hurt you to control you. Let it go!

Life without a partner is better. Freer. More independent. You'll be your happiest alone.

Hard work almost always trumps ability, cleverness, flash or faking it. Not 100% of the time, but most of the time.

Grannybags Sun 07-Nov-21 20:54:11

That it's OK to put yourself first occasionally

Nell8 Sun 07-Nov-21 21:12:10

Sometimes what you think you want isn't what you really need

Santana Sun 07-Nov-21 21:45:53

No matter how hard you try, and how much of your energy you put in, some things just can't be changed.

BigBertha1 Sun 07-Nov-21 22:18:59

Another one here with a mother who should have been estranged at the earliest opportunity.

Dillon472 Mon 08-Nov-21 05:29:12

Be yourself and don't try and change to fit in with people with whom you have little in common.

lavenderzen Mon 08-Nov-21 05:40:03

To say No.

teabagwoman Mon 08-Nov-21 08:09:04

That I should not have accepted my family’s opinion of me.

Giving unasked for advice is useless.

I’ve done my share, accept being someone who sometimes needs help.

TerriT Mon 08-Nov-21 11:02:56

That giveing birth doesn’t make you a mother. Some women should not have children.
That life is gone in a flash!
Expecting to be treated in a way that you feel you should be leads to disappointment!
To never allow your family to treat you badly and accept it because they are ‘family’ .
To respect yourself and realise you are important to yourself if no one else.

VioletSky Mon 08-Nov-21 11:24:18

Much love to those who needed a mum and didn't get one.

Smileless2012 Mon 08-Nov-21 11:52:59

That the saying 'sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me' just isn't true.

bear1 Mon 08-Nov-21 11:53:05

should never have forgiven husband who had affair then went on to have second and left.never agreeing to marry 2nd husband after only six months of knowing him as it turned out he was still paying his first wifes mortgage and expenses i left him

Dempie55 Mon 08-Nov-21 11:59:43

That the only person you can really count on to care for you and look after you properly is yourself. Be good to yourself, indulge in little treats and luxuries when you have the notion, don't wait for someone else to do it for you!

fluttERBY123 Mon 08-Nov-21 12:06:43

"Forgive" is interesting. It's original sense is that if someone has done something against you no no longer want any kind of reparation/compensation from them. It does not mean that you are suddenly back to being friendly with them or will ever speak to them again. It might be on here I saw that.

Dearknees1 Mon 08-Nov-21 12:14:46

As Oscar Wilde said, ‘Youth is wasted on the young’.
