To think we’ll be in lockdown by Christmas

Just seeing the news about new restrictions being introduced for care home visits, and one expert opinion warns us to expect plan C fairly soon, as plan B wont be enough to stop a fourth wave - Omicron has caused the biggest daily jump to 633 cases in the UK. What do others think ?

Casdon Sat 11-Dec-21 21:51:43

I don’t think there will be a lockdown like there was last time, do you? I think it will be all measures short of, covid passes for any socialising, working from home, close nightclubs and possibly pubs. They may close schools if it is shown to affect children to the same degree as adults. The NHS will be forced to cancel everything except emergencies as last winter.

Alegrias1 Sat 11-Dec-21 21:54:39

I don't think there will be a lockdown either Casdon.

I wish people would stop talking about closed nightclubs as a lockdown.

Do you all remember lockdown? Only leave your house once a day. Don't move far from your house. Everything shut. Everything.

Restrictions are not lockdown.

Personally, I'm devastated at not being able to see my GGC for the second Christmas, but what can I do ? I only had the one vax and two days ago one child tested positive, though I haven't had any more news about that, but being as there are a lot of children I'm taking no chances and will stay put hunkered down with the cats.
It's not the end of the world-------yet ! grin

Biscuitmuncher

Amberone why do we still end up back at square one then

We're not back at square one. The deaths are much lower than 18 months ago. We have vaccines that prevent most from getting seriously ill and possibly dying.

But every time there is a new mutation we have to reassess what we know and what we do.

But quite frankly, Biscuitmuncher, you know all this. It has been explained to you many times by many people over the last 18 months.

JaneJudge Sat 11-Dec-21 21:57:15

where I work is shutting down for three weeks over christmas, I suppose schools/colleges and universities are locked down for 2/3 weeks (a month n some cases)

AGAA4 Sat 11-Dec-21 21:57:35

It takes time to see if people who become infected with Omicron end up in hospital. That could be weeks away.

If it happens that many people start becoming very ill then clearly more measures will need to be taken.

EllanVannin Sat 11-Dec-21 21:57:49

If it's as bad as it's supposed to be, why isn't there a lockdown ?

EllanVannin Sat 11-Dec-21 22:04:13

I go by what scientists say, not MP's.

People are organising their own form of restrictions, my son's group has just announced it will be meeting virtually next week rather than face to face.

yesh lots of people have cancelled their Christmas party attendance. Mine happened yesterday and I'm sure they really really missed me until the vodka kicked in...

Bought a filet of beef today in case we can't go to my DD! It all depends on how many will be hospitalised. DHs daughter is a consultant in intensive care, very p.....d off with the anti-vaxers that she has to treat.

EV. I think they are saving any bad news until after the byelection.

maddyone Sun 12-Dec-21 00:54:56

I’m already careful, but unless any of my family actually have Covid, then I’m not locking down on Christmas Day. We’ve arranged to go to my son’s house, along with our other son, and unless one of us tests positive, we’re going.

Pepper59 Sun 12-Dec-21 02:42:23

Lockdown? You mean like Cop26, rugby matches at Twickenham. Work from home but go out to a nightclub lockdown? When politicians, celebs and footballers all go into lockdown, I will be happy to follow. Of course I will still follow the guidelines but I cannot help but feel the guidance has been a farce. There is absolutely no consistency and this time around they are going to have one helluva job getting people to comply. Im sorry don't have people flying all over the globe to large gatherings, then begin to moan about infection rates. There is no leadership in this country and it's beginning to show. Look after yourselves, the government certainly won't.

God! I have a Turkey being delivered, made millions of pigs in blankets, a humungous Christmas pudding. Table chocolates, table gifts, crackers, table napkins, champagne etc etc all for 8 people.

Bloody hell.

We will have to deliver it to DDs house on Christmas Day I think.

We are out for our annual Christmas outing this week so must chat about possible scenarios then.

We do have LFTs and all vaccinated at least twice I wonder if that would be sufficient?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 12-Dec-21 06:40:07

We must vaccinate the world because until we do this will be how it is for the foreseeable future.

We could change Christmas to the summer?

Lincslass Sun 12-Dec-21 06:54:14

MissAdventure

I think it will be after Christmas.
They aren't in a position to try and enforce one at this time, due to their own behaviour.

So as parties go ahead, if plan C , those funsters will be no better than the people they are complaining about. I declined a big 70th party on Friday due to our infection rates shooting up locally Just because ?they did, doesn’t mean we should. Still the child stamping its foot tries to get its own way.

I had my booster jab a fortnight ago, at a local venue which was half -empty to the disappointment of the staff. I learned of the venue via a recorded message whilst trying to get to speak to a doctor (failed). The receptionist said I should have have received a notification from them, which strangely arrived during our conversation, and I duly booked and attended my appointment, minus the number the surgery failed to give me.

The GP service being offered in this country at present needs urgent investigation as it is certainly not matching the care offered by the NHS hospitals. I was fortunate to get an immediate appointment concerning an eye problem as my doctor refused to see me and told me, via the receptionist, to visit an optician. No information given about the excellent triage service at the local hospital which I discovered for myself.

Please keep safe everyone get a plan B organised for Christmas.

I think Scotland will have travel restrictions in place from next week.

I like the way our first minister works. She’ll keep us as safe as can be. But we should really be managing our own safety should we not?

Take care and enjoy the coming days as much as you possibly can, partying can always be reintroduced.

EkwaNimitee Sun 12-Dec-21 09:00:13

I don't think they'll dare lock us down for Christmas, people just won't stand for it after the current revelations from Downing Street. After Christmas, maybe, we need to see how the Omicron variant develops.
Personally, unless I or the family are positive, I'm not going to be restricted at Christmas, I haven't seen any of the family for 2 years now and DS2 is coming from Australia.

Woodmouse Sun 12-Dec-21 09:13:10

If you have had your necessary vaccinations and no one is testing positive, then why would you even think about cancelling your Christmas plans?

Elegran Sun 12-Dec-21 09:13:31

Why is anyone setting their own precaution level to that of the bozos who partied while telling the hoi polloi not to gather together with others? If you say you will do the same as they did, that is being influenced by them just as much as avoiding large get-togethers would have been.

For crying out loud - meet up with your family at Christmas because you have considered the risks and taken all the precautions you can if that is the conclusion you come to, not because "they did it first", however hypocritical you think their actions were.

As my mother used to say when we used the excuse that "She did it first"- "If she put her hand in the fire, would you put yours in too?"
