Food deliveries by unmasked drivers

The Tesco delivery people I have are wonderful. They bring my shopping up to my first floor flat and help me unload it. I find carrying heavy shopping upstairs hard now.
Some of them wear a mask some don't but I am so grateful for what they do.

Food delivery drivers have saved my life and my sanity.
They are unfailingly polite and cheerful and willing to chat as I unload the baskets..

Some of my delivery drivers haven't worn a mask from many months ago. I open the door and stand back, they put the crates on my doormat and stand back while I unload them. At all times we are about 2m apart, and the driver is out in my front garden.

This is sad really as your anxiety levels must be sky high. Poor delivery driver who is only trying to do his/her job. I would say try some relaxation exercises.

Relaxation exercises aren’t magically going to change the fact that you’re clinically vulnerable.

The OP asked a civil question. It appears she is vulnerable - maybe CEV, who knows. If you are, you continually get emails and messages from the NHS reminding you of the fact - hardly surprising that some feel anxious.

She may have over-reacted, but calling her "mrs moaning knickers" was a bit spiteful.

Why do you find it 'laugh-out-loud' funny?

That was unnecessary. As I explained upthread, for anyone with a serious autoimmune disorder things haven’t really moved on - clinical advice is still to be cautious. No amount of name calling will change that.

There are quite a few responses on here which are glaringly inconsistent with what CEV people are still being advised by their care providers. I’m CEV and advised to be very careful as my condition affects the ability to make antibodies against Covid. My consultant considers it too soon to be fully dropping my guard and advises a ‘wait and see’ approach for now. I’ve just had a fourth Covid vaccination and am awaiting antibody testing. There were two categories of clinically vulnerable people with different advice for each, and those in the CEV category were, and still are, the ones most at risk.

I can see where the OP’s coming from - anyone with a serious underlying condition has spent the majority of the last two years fearing infection from Covid - when I contracted it in February last year it was as a result of a short hospital stay and I was really ill, and very scared. It’s not something I wish to go through again and the fear is still there.

I have deliveries from two of the major supermarkets and the drivers haven’t worn masks for a while so I wear mine. I have on occasion explained to the driver that I’m CEV and requested they wear a mask if they enter the house - usually for a larger delivery where they bring the containers inside. They have never refused this request. Normally they place the containers on the floor in the porch, the driver steps back while I put things in bags. I wipe down packaging before putting things away and then thoroughly wash my hands and wipe down surfaces. I would never refuse to accept delivery just because a driver refuses to wear a mask, but again, if the OP is still at considerable risk, it comes down to personal choice and what you’re comfortable with. Life goes on for the majority of people, but a few of us still have to practise a certain amount of caution and I think this thread displays a lack of understanding as to why.

Sorry, but you’ve gone over the top here! W******e do our deliveries. I haven’t noticed if they wear masks or not. They leave the crate on the doorstep and OH carries it through to the kitchen. I unload it and OH then takes the crate back. The driver does not come into the house. I won’t blame S’s if they refuse to deliver to you any more.

I don't think I would want to starve over whether or not the delivery driver wore a mask. In England it is no longer compulsory as he is out in the fresh air and not in your home. Just think about the number of people who have handled the foodstuffs before the delivery driver gets to you and you may never eat again.

Nannashirlz that was an unnecessary and unkind remark. Many vulnerable people are very worried and rightly so about the end of compulsory mask wearing. There are many people who are immune compromised that omnicron would be either fatal or at the very least make them far sicker and their life far harder. I would be very worried if I were immune compromised too.

There's a section when you're ordering where you can put special requests. Just explain there that you are vulnerable, you require the delivery person to wear a mask and stand well back. while you unload the shop. They have always respected this request on my deliveries.

I don't expect my Tesco drivers to wear a mask. To be truthfull I don't notice if they do or don't. They deliver my monthly shopping and have done all through lockdown and I am very grateful. Thank you Tesco for a fantastic service.

It’s just my opinion but I think it was unreasonable to demand he wears a mask and then send your shopping back when he didn’t. If he had been coming into your home that would be different.

You must be very anxious, my sons are, as i said, one is CEV, other has OCD so hes been very hyped up over covid- and we all have medical problems/disabilities- but we have had to try cope with it and tone down our anxieties over it as time has wore on.I personally am over anxious whenever we have hospital appts or procedures, but we do have to have things frequently unfortunately.??

Masks are note required outdoors: does the delivery person enter your premises?
Remember that if you wear a mask yourself to feel safer, it would need to be FFP2/3 to protect you as well as the other person.

I dont think the o p is saying theyve to drive wearing a mask, just to wear it to their door.(eazybee-you cant drive with a mask on if you wear glasses as they steam up!) But, my youngest son is CEV so we take extra care- but some deliveries (most)drivers are not wearing masks, they do stand back, and me & elder son wear masks, to bring in shopping, youngest stays in his room well out of the way,we dettol wipe all shopping and we are fine so far.As drivers don't come in its a minor risk I'd say.Had some washer fitters come, they had no masks, but did have gloves.i wore a mask but left them to fit washer.went back when they'd gone, had left front door open etc,sprayed dettol in the air etc..Most do comply, if they've to come in, maybe those 2 were 'exempt'? But all ok anyway.

I cannot possibly bend down to unpack crates so the delivery driver unpacks them on to the kitchen table for me. The back door is left open and I stand in the hall. No problem.
Last week the lady driver offered to put the frozen stuff into the freezer for me. I do find all the Sainsburys drivers are helpful and polite.

We've had online deliveries for 17+ years. I am CEV and in the last few years our deliveries have been as always. Driver arrives, sets tote trays on doorstep, and my husband brings in the groceries. No masks required.

Sometimes our delivery driver is wearing a mask, sometimes not. They always stand well back while we transfer the stuff from the crates. No problem.

I am sorry you are vunerable, but you cannot impose mask wearing on the driver. It's not your call.
I honestly believe you cut of your nose to spite your face.
