Mouth open duchess

I expect to be told I'm being unreasonable for saying that I wish there were fewer pictures in the press of Kate Middleton (oh yes, you can complain about that too ?) with her mouth open. Today's were accompanying news of her taking on what used to be Harry's rugby patronages.

I think she'll be a great ambassador (is that the word?) for the sport and, as usual, she looks a model of forty-year-old fitness. She even looks elegant in a track suit.

But the gaping maw? (no offence maybemaw; your maw is a different word).

I don't think it's hard work to be honest but it's not a life I would want and the last sort of life I would want for a daughter (I only have sons).
I have done 12 hour and 24 shifts but my life was my own. I increasingly think one of the best arguments for abolishing the RF is what happens to the people within it.

Callistemon21

No-one works a 12 hour shift in Tesco.

Actually, GrannyLaine I did work for a while as a shelf stacker at Sainsburys.
No-one cared what I looked like as long as I was clean.

Your post reminded me of the occasional extra overnight shifts my daughter did as a shelf stacker in Sainsburys before she went to university. At the time, I was working 12 hour nights as a Delivery Suite midwife.
Her take home pay was higher than mine.

Oh yes, we've definitely all got different ideas as to what constitutes hard work. And I STILL wouldn't swap with the Duchess.

MissAdventure Wed 02-Feb-22 22:33:13

I'd swap some working days with Kate.
I do 12.5 hour shifts.
I can't see her rushing to swap, though.

Yes, we've definitely got different ideas of hard work...

GrannyLaine Wed 02-Feb-22 22:26:31

Me neither Callistemon
We're clearly workshy.
Would I want to put in the huge amount of preparation required beforehand to make an official visit a success, do all the necessary with hair/makeup/clothing whether I felt like it or not, all the time being careful to look engaged and interested? Repeat again the next day? Not to mention the constant presence of journalists and photographers
Now that to me seems like really, really hard work.

Callistemon21 Wed 02-Feb-22 22:10:38

Does she work hard? Not in the usual sense of the word. She's never had to work a 12 hour shift in Tescos, then go home and feed the kids on a fiver

Are they the criteria for working hard?

If so, I never qualified.

Callistemon21 Wed 02-Feb-22 22:09:02

You might think you're a peasant and a subject, Paddyann but I know I'm not!

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 22:01:54

Is she a nice lassie? Don't know, never met her.
Is she good at projecting a "nice" image? Definitely.

Does she have a huge weight of responsibility on her shoulders. No. No. No.
Does she care about people? Quite possibly. She can afford to.
Had she dedicated her life to an institution which I believe to be unfair and anachronistic? Definitely.

Would I do her "job"? Not in a million years, but not for the reason you think.

Josieann Wed 02-Feb-22 21:47:53

You miss the point where my comment was leading, Alegrias. Sometimes it is right to concentrate on the qualities of the individual, not on those of the institution. The thread is about Catherine's effort, however we choose to view this.

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 21:39:46

I think this discussion about royal values is as daft as the usual misconception on here that private schools beget a mentality of entitlement in their pupils.

No!! Surely not!! ???

Josieann Wed 02-Feb-22 21:33:06

What is?

Sago Wed 02-Feb-22 21:31:53

Astonishing.

Josieann Wed 02-Feb-22 21:31:52

I think this discussion about royal values is as daft as the usual misconception on here that private schools beget a mentality of entitlement in their pupils. Yes, certain members of the RF may think they are different to the rest of us and are superior beings, but from what I see of Catherine, I feel like she constantly recognises how lucky she is, how many privileges she has, and how it is her responsibility to make people feel genuinely better and happier.

paddyann54 Wed 02-Feb-22 21:20:25

She wouldn't know a hard days work if it bit her on the nose.I do believe shes a great actress though ,often looks really grumpy when caught by a roaming cameras...BUT she knows to get the lifestyle and the peasants cash she has to toe the line.

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 21:03:31

No, nice tracksuit. She's good at lineouts. ?

Pantglas2 Wed 02-Feb-22 21:02:58

Most of my ancestors were farm labourers, so I guess in a way we were peasants

Mine too Alegrias, but I’ve not ever felt inferior to anyone- is it cos I’m Welsh?

Callistemon21 Wed 02-Feb-22 20:58:03

I don't think she was wearing a nice frock at the rugby.

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 20:56:07

Anyway, most of us have Royal ancestors in our genealogical tree.

I don't, at last not for the eight generations I've been able to trace. Before that, I think its pretty unlikely still; we really were peasants. grin Maybe that's why I think that wearing nice frocks doesn't really amount to "work".

Callistemon21 Wed 02-Feb-22 20:52:08

It says that I think that the RF think they are different to us and that they have blue blood.

I really don't think anyone believes that, even the RF!

Anyway, most of us have Royal ancestors in our genealogical tree.
Just checked my wrists, my blood is blue!!

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 20:40:35

“But I don't think being a teacher has got anything in common at all with wearing nice frocks and waving at the peasants.”

“...and waving at the peasants.”

What does that say a lot about you?

It says that I think that the RF think they are different to us and that they have blue blood.

Other people will think differently, I'm sure.

I'd answer but I've got a bit of straw stuck in my teeth and my forelock has been tugged right over my eyes.

Beswitched Wed 02-Feb-22 20:30:38

I've seen numerous pictures of Kate Middleton. Sometimes she's smiling, sometimes she's laughing, sometimes she's looking calm or serious. She always looks beautiful and appropriate to the occasion.
Can't understand the issue here.

hmm even if you're feeling like shit a bit under the weather you have to paste on a smile and summon up enthusiasm when teaching.

I'd call that acting a part.
