Where to buy quality underwear?

I recently bought 2 multi packs of knickers from a well-known store, in a style and size I've worn for years.
They didn't seem to fit right. Theres not enough material in the back and way too much stretchy material in the front.
I've compared them with my older pairs (5 years old and more) and there is now definitely more material in the crotch area! (almost a pouchy effect on some of the pairs, a bit like men's underpants confused)

I went online to read some of the reviews and there are male people raving about these knickers, saying that "there's enough room for men to wear them" basically they can fit their their male bits in them.

Aibu for being shocked that even women's underwear is now under attack?
So now we have to wear saggy, pouchy underwear, just because transwomen might get upset if there isn't enough room for them to fit their junk in?
(most transwomen these days don't have bottom surgery and choose to keep their male penises and testicles). I'm not sure if many Gransnetters are aware of that)

Aibu to think there should be a separate section for transwomens underwear?
Manufacturersshould not be changing and messing around with women's underware and shoving extra material into areas that have no need of extra material.
Why do women always have to budge up to accommodate others?
I'm prepared to be told to shut up and #bekind.
Which is what usually happens.

Oh and I would have put this in Feminism if we had such a section.

M&S have an offer on at the moment -pack of three for £4.20. Those ones are a horrible colour though.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 15-Feb-22 19:42:22

Well I think when you get older the answer is Tena pants grin

M0nica Tue 15-Feb-22 19:31:50

Lemsip was that aimed at me? I checked M&S and a three pack of pants is about £14. £140 will buy 10 packs. As I understand the OP she must have bought about 15 packs.

I would have thought if the problems she is complaining of is so evident, she wouldn't need to even try them on, just take one out of the pack and look at it. As for constantly buying the same thing again and again and not being prepared to exchange them. I do trust she did at least donate the pairs she hadn't worn to a charity shop.

MayBee70, when you say bloomers, do you mean like cycling shorts ?
i was surprised to find out recently that schoolgirls wear these as normal under skirts/dresses due to upskirting by boys.
when i mentioned it to an african friend, middle-aged, she said yes of course, it was part of the uniform at her girls-only school in africa.
i felt v old. out of touch.

Yes. I get mine from The Big Bloomer company. I always worried that, if I was walking down the street wearing baggy trousers or a long dress my Tena Lady would slip out! I don’t actually have to wear them now but when I had atrophy I suffered from terrible key in door syndrome. You can get them in all colours to match whatever dress you’re wearing. Before I discovered them I used to wear short leggings under my dress or trousers.

well i shop in pound shops. now they are mostly pound plus.
anyway i buy various things, including underwear.
i got some recently in the mighty pound which i find really comfortable. one pound fifty each. i think they claim to pull in the tummy a bit. but i don't bother with that. i buy the biggest possible as i find them more comfortable.
on getting them home and putting on i find 2 have a small gap in the seam at the top near the waistband. i won't bother to take them back, it's too far, and anyway reckon they will last long enough. they are 95% cotton, 5% lycra.

Maybe it’s for keeping your purse in.

That would stop the pickpockets in their tracks!

where do you shop? in the pound shop?
not a bit funny if thats what it was meant to be...

M0nica Tue 15-Feb-22 17:38:15

Of course you can return pants, if you buy 3 packs of three, 2 packs still in original packing unopened, then send the unopened packs back. I would take the 2 unworn pairs and the laundered tried-on one back to the shop and complained.

Shops are well used to taking good back that are not resaleable. When the seam on a sweater wnt a week or two after I had bought it. I took it back to the shop and got my money back.

What I do not understand why, if these pants didn't fit, the OP then went on to spend £100s of pounds buying even more of an unsuitable product, which she claims she could not then return.

It doesn't make sense.

Rather depends on the state of your bladder/pelvic floor!!

And Squeeze!!!

Jaxjacky Tue 15-Feb-22 16:22:52

Not a problem Juggernaut good to see like minded, we should form a club ?

Juggernaut Tue 15-Feb-22 16:00:00

@ Jaxjacky,
I've been reading all previous comments since joining Gransnet in August 2011, and to be honest, I no longer have the time, nor the patience to read all that go before me now!
So, I'm sorry if a tiny part of my post repeated something you had already mentioned, but it happens to us all at some point! smile

GoldenLady Tue 15-Feb-22 15:38:15

Could the real reason for this be the increase of older women, therefore more urinary incontinence, requiring room for pads inside the underwear? It might have nothing to do with trans people at all.

Jaxjacky Tue 15-Feb-22 15:33:35

As I suggested earlier Juggernaut

Juggernaut Tue 15-Feb-22 15:16:16

The problem's easy to solve, go commando!
I have a few pairs of knicks in a drawer for medical appointments, but have gone commando for the past 25 years. I was even commando at our son's wedding! I did wear a floor length dress though grin

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 15-Feb-22 15:04:15

I buy Sloggi pants. They cost more but last for ever, literally years, so work out cheaper in the long run. Very comfortable.

I try pants on over a pair of my own. I have no qualms about returning them if they are not as expected

Same here.

Atqui Tue 15-Feb-22 14:37:52

Snowberry Nooooo you are not alone! I have loads of pairs that I bought to try and then found uncomfortable for reasons you mentioned ( though as yet haven’t discovered the baggy front bit). I find the usual problem is getting
Hat you refer to as ass creeping- what I call KUB. I’d love to know which knickers they were that have changed.

MayBee70 Tue 15-Feb-22 14:33:44

I’ve always struggled to find tights that don’t dig in horribly, very few have a decent gusset. I rarely wear dresses these days but have spent fortunes over the years buying tights for special occasions only to find they don’t fit. Of course, now that I don’t need them several companies have started selling comfortable tights. Because I wear Tena lady I now wear those bloomer type pants. They’re great if, in summer you’re wearing a long dress that might blow up but I also wear them under baggy trousers. They also lift our bot area up a bit and help it shape wise. Kim Kardashian eat your heart out!

kircubbin2000 Tue 15-Feb-22 14:30:06

Monica, I don't think you can return pants. The m and s ones I have bought recently are nearly bare round the seat area but my old ones are still fine.
I tried Sainsburys last time but they only come halfway up my hips and don't seem to have elastic just a slight stretch. If I didn't wear trousers they would fall down.

annodomini Tue 15-Feb-22 14:29:10

I was just considering replacing all the pants I have had for 3 years which have gone rather baggy. Maybe I'll skip M&S and go next door to see what Tesco have, or just up the road to Sainsbury's. Any one tried either of these?
