Where to buy quality underwear?

I recently bought 2 multi packs of knickers from a well-known store, in a style and size I've worn for years.
They didn't seem to fit right. Theres not enough material in the back and way too much stretchy material in the front.
I've compared them with my older pairs (5 years old and more) and there is now definitely more material in the crotch area! (almost a pouchy effect on some of the pairs, a bit like men's underpants confused)

I went online to read some of the reviews and there are male people raving about these knickers, saying that "there's enough room for men to wear them" basically they can fit their their male bits in them.

Aibu for being shocked that even women's underwear is now under attack?
So now we have to wear saggy, pouchy underwear, just because transwomen might get upset if there isn't enough room for them to fit their junk in?
(most transwomen these days don't have bottom surgery and choose to keep their male penises and testicles). I'm not sure if many Gransnetters are aware of that)

Aibu to think there should be a separate section for transwomens underwear?
Manufacturersshould not be changing and messing around with women's underware and shoving extra material into areas that have no need of extra material.
Why do women always have to budge up to accommodate others?
I'm prepared to be told to shut up and #bekind.
Which is what usually happens.

Oh and I would have put this in Feminism if we had such a section.

you would not be allowed into the dressing rooms with knickers to try on in M & S

Vintagejazz Sun 03-Apr-22 20:18:44

I buy my knickers in a pack. I presume they haven't been tried on?

Atqui Fri 01-Apr-22 21:54:35

Is this a resurrected thread that was about extra fabric ? Why have they changed the title?

annodomini Fri 01-Apr-22 20:47:44

This week I bought a pack of M&S midi pants in a variety of colours. They fit perfectly and there is no excess material in the gussets!

I'm sorry if you find this thread upsetting.

We are allowed to post about topics other than the war and fuel prices you know wink

I'm not upset by the thread. It's a storm in a B cup!

I don't want any knickers tried on by anyone else, male, female or any other variant.

Snowberry you are entirely correct about TW trying on women's underwear in department stores, it is very much a thing, I'm afraid.
I had the misfortune to see pictorial evidence (selfies, taken by the men themselves) collated by someone who wished to demonstrate the extent to which this does happen, and posted on Twitter. It was highly unpleasant.

Sloggis is the brand I was trying to recall..sensible no nonsense pants in various styles from full brief to tanga!

Haven't we got enough real stuff to worry about?

Ukraine

Possibility of war spreading throughout Europe

Climate change

Melting of the polar ice caps

Fuel prices

Worrying about the knickers in M&S being tried on by blokes just isn't up there, really, is it?

GagaJo Wed 23-Mar-22 22:26:36

It may well be concerning people, but there is a lot of fear around about these sorts of issues that are based on virtually no evidence. If there is any evidence, it'll be one case, whipped up by incendiary newspapers.

This stuff isn't real!

I remember 30 years ago, my grandparents being scared about hoards of marauding teenagers scratching cars and defacing and vandalising houses. It wasn't real but my poor grandparents believed it.

These things are urban myths. Try talking to your adult children about them and see how seriously they take it.

Lucca I can use my judgement..they are , after all, hanging up on little hangers! Never dreamed of trying on knickers!

snowberryZ Wed 23-Mar-22 18:06:48

Whereas someone with a fetish about wearing women's undwear, whether that be a man who cross dresses, or a transwoman who's into the Autogynephillia side of the things, and not to mention the 'men' who insist on writing numerous reviews on all the M &S women's underwear sections, I'd say there's a strong chance that people like that would get a kick out of taking underwear into the women's changing rooms AND trying it on.
People can try and minimise it, but this sort of thing is concerning a lot of women at the moment and I think it's worth discussing.

snowberryZ Wed 23-Mar-22 17:56:16

I know of NO woman who would try knickers on. Myself included.

I have bought fancy knickers in the past..to match a bra from Rigby & Pellar.. I did not try them on..they had a size marked on them...confused

So everything with your size marked fits ?

snowberryZ Wed 23-Mar-22 17:55:02

GAGAJO Sorry to disappoint Definitely not a teenager. I wish.
Discussion of anything contentious seems to give some GN'ers a touch of the vapours.confused
Is this place only for discussing things like knitting, baking and grandchildren?
No wonder MN hasn't given us a Feminism Section.

Lucca Wed 23-Mar-22 17:03:29

Um… packaged knickers no, but fancy ones yes…over another pair, otherwise how do you know they aren’t too tight etc. just like bikini bottoms ( oh distant memory…)

GagaJo Wed 23-Mar-22 16:37:53

That's kind of the point though, isn't it? Knickers don't get tried on.

Blossoming Wed 23-Mar-22 16:08:03

Gagajo I wouldn’t want to try on knickers that somebody else, man or woman, trans or otherwise, had already tried on. I wouldn’t consider buying knickers that had been tried on or worn by someone else.

GagaJo Wed 23-Mar-22 15:57:07

Sacrificed a goat?

Eaten a 3 course meal?

Skydived?

Bungee jumped?

^Why the hysteria anyway? Just suppose a bloke HAD tried on a pair you buy^

Are you for real?
Excuse me for not wanting to purchase underwear that a man has tried on and done God knows what in it.

Oh you made me laugh aloud with that! Surely this is in jest?

You'd know if he'd done 'God knows what' in them. It'd be obvious.

You're that teenager that got kicked off here this morning, come back, aren't you?

snowberryZ Wed 23-Mar-22 14:57:38

Well, I'm heading towards 60 and have never tried on knickers before buying.

Guess what, neither have I.

GagaJo Wed 23-Mar-22 14:47:25

humptydumpty

This is ridiculous!

1. who tries on underwear??!
2. how many trans women who still have male genitalia do you think there are ???!!!

smacks of DM windup.

You are very naive.
Most transwomen these days are encouraged to keep their male genitalia. In other words, very few decide to have bottom surgery.
How do you not know this?confused

And yes, it is quite possible that a
middle aged man, who decides to self identify, would go into a womams changing room to try on women's underwear.

Have you actually read the thread that I provided the link to?

By the way I do t read the daily meal.
So cheap shot.

Well, I'm heading towards 60 and have never tried on knickers before buying.

Why the hysteria anyway? Just suppose a bloke HAD tried on a pair you buy. Trans isn't infectious.

snowberryZ Wed 23-Mar-22 14:30:44

I know when I've tried bras on in m&s changing rooms, I will very often take the matching pants in as well. Only so that I don't have to trsupse round the store trying to find them.

It's quite possible for a man to do this AND try the underwear on.

I certainly don't want to buy a pair of pants that's previously had male bollocks in them?.
