Nachos at the cinema

I realise cinemas make most of their money from food nowadays. But do they have to include something that has such a strong and pervasive smell?

I was nearly gagging at the weekend when we went to see Belfast.

Anyone else wish they'd ban really greasy and strong smelling food, or at least have a few performances that are food free zones.

The smell of someone eating nacho’s near me in the cinema reminds me of the smell of the cage that my DD’s mouse lived in.

When we went to the cinema several years ago there were people eating proper, full blown curry that they had brought in from outside. The smell in the hot, confined space was overpowering. ?? We never went back to that particular venue!

Our local Odeon sells hot dogs and the smell lingers through the whole showing off the film

I thought everyone knew that anything consumed in a Cinema in the dark has zero calories in it.
My zero rated calorie treat is Maltesers or M&Ms. plus you don’t feel guilty eating in the dark, not that you need to of course as they are zero calories too.

I haven’t been to the cinema for ages.

I think back fondly to when you just had an ice cream at the interval, in a tub, with a little wooden spoon/spatula to eat it with. Don’t like popcorn.

Oh, happy days!

Yes it is Tillytrotter.

When I was a child we usually brought a packet of sweets into the cinema. But we certainly didn't have buckets of popcorn and huge containers of coke, and no adult would have dreamt of guzzling the amount of food some people get through during a film nowadays. A trip to the cinema must cost them an absolute fortune.

My GD had some years ago and dropped the lot. OMG. Can only assume that they make lots of money selling them.

People getting up and going to the toilet getting snacks/drinks during the performance annoys me more than people eating. Why can't they sit still for a couple of hours? I've seen people doing this at gigs too when the tickets have been an astronomical price. What's wrong with them? Concentration span of gnats!

Strange, isn't it, how things change?
All this extra food and drink between meals is almost compulsory now.

Hence the obesity crisis!

I wished the cinemas would realize if they didn't charge a fortune for popcorn and snacks, that people wouldn't feel the need to buy them elsewhere first.

My go-to has always been chocolate raisins, but I was disappointed when I found out the local cinema stopped stocking them. I haven't been to the cinema since initial lock-down, so I'm not sure what they have now, but I won't pay more for the popcorn than I did for the movie!

I really think this depends on the type of cinema, the type of film and the time of day. A popular blockbuster movie suitable for the family will have a food and drink problem, and evenings probably too.

We go to weekday afternoon showings (Silver Screen if possible) and everyone sits quietly, doesn't make either noises or smells and I've never had the slightest problem!

My only complaint is the cinema volume level which is extremely high. I had to take concert earplugs to My Generation, A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody because they are all musical films and it was deafening! It could be that particular cinema of course......

Its very much the norm in the everyman cinemas .....everyone has their own side table for their food and drinks...they do table service to your seats...I usually have a wine...but never food...but there's always someone chomping on a big fat burger... I do love the big comfy sofas though with scatter cushions...very comfy...which is why I go

MissAdventure Wed 06-Apr-22 21:23:22

I reckon I'd fall asleep on the sofa..
