Oh dear ‘picking on’ people.
It’s a discussion forum. People post, others respond. Obviously the more one posts the more others will respond. That’s how it works.
Is democracy being by-passed in favour of the billionaires?
AIBU to think that jokes about rape and killing women whatever the context are completely unacceptable and to women not funny at all.
Frankie Boyle, addressed a controversial stand up routine at the Latitude Festival recently in which he joked about raping and murdering tv presenter Holly Willoughby, he argued that the so called "joke" came within a wider context.
This is the context: in describing a game about killing and shagging people he included HW, he said this "I'd obviously kill and rape her afterwards, I'm only joking I'd rape her first"
AIBU, given the all too recent Sarah Everard case and the umpteen other women who will have been raped and kill by men his remarks are reprehensible. How is he getting away with this?

Why is everyone picking on me?
If I cared, I might be upset ??
But it is odd.
I love that "there's a lot of angry and obsessed people here" maybe, but conversely others will find you equally angry and obsessed.
There's a lot of very angry and, I venture to say, obsessed people here, isn't there?
Not you, JaneJudge
I have heard some absolute filth on stage, some funny and some not but I wouldn't want stand up comedy policed, it is sort of part of the fun
Volver OK, I have washing to do which will be more productive than this. But here we go.
You have openly mocked other posters for such as this. You once posted a list of excuses such as having to go out, do the washing etc. which are used, in your opinion, when they have no snappy answer to your arguments.
You have also been known to trawl back through threads and point out what others have said. I believe you said ‘sauce for the gander’ when someone pointed out one of your contradictory posts recently….
Late DH and I used to watch panel shows with FB and he wasn't too bad then - not hilarious but not offensive either. Then we saw him on something like Live at the Apollo or similar with a 'routine' which wasn't in the slightest bit funny. We watched, didn't raise a laugh, DH said, "Well, he's just about offended everyone he possibly can." That was ages ago and it's surprising that he's still on the telly.
Of course he'll get away with much worse at live performances which is why I'll never pay good money to see him.
I have never liked Frankie Boyle. I don't find him funny, he makes despicable comments and dresses them up as banter or jokes.
Comments about raping and killing women (or men, but then how often do men "joke" about doing that to other men?
A. They don't) go beyond the pale.
I have never found misogyny at all funny.
I think it’s because proper comedians are a thing of the past. Today’s think the way to get laughs is to be offensive or disgusting. I never listen to any of them.
I’ve nothing at all against Scotland or the Scot’s, but I thoroughly dislike that man and wholeheartedly agree with most of the comments on here. I remember how cruel he was about Rebecca Adlington’s nose, liking her to a dolphin. Poor Rebecca - I think she had a rhinoplasty after that. He stoops very low, that man.
Frankie Boyle is not to my taste at all.
Some subjects are just not suitable topics for comedy no matter where they come from (toxic masculinity) or how they are dressed up.
I'm not calling anyone names, (and I don't read the Daily Mail either by the way.)

But going back to the topic - jokes about rape and killing people are not jokes, no matter how they are presented and should always be called out.

Frankie Boyle is most definitely not to everybody's taste. I do find him entertaining. None of us have seen his latest show. In that show, he says he has a long section devoted to whether some jokes are unacceptable and come out of toxic masculinity. That is the explanation for the "bad taste" joke about HW. That it was part of that discussion. I am prepared to believe that, having seen his acts on TV in the past.
But if you think he is just a nasty specimen who just tells one liners about raping people, you will be happy to call him names and believe what the Daily Mail tells you.
To each his own. Jokes on you.
Jim Davidson old school misogynist Frankie Boyle right on edgy, new wave, beloved by the BBC misogynist, so gotta be alright! Anyway same meat different gravy!
What else can I think of to describe two such individuals, one leans to the right (probably extreme right) one to the left, one's English, aren't we lucky! and the other, hang on a moment I do believe is Scottish
could that be a factor in comments such as making assumptions about him by the anti Meghan brigade, -- like what the f**k has she got to do with this thread-- other than you making assumptions about certain posters and I might just say to use one of your favoured expression "you don't get to do that!" but telling anyone what they can and can't do on a public forum sort of suggests an air of superiority so I wont! I can only conclude therefore it's a touch of "is it cos I's Scots". I hate to sound like Mrs Thatcher but it's a, NO! NO! NO! we care not where he's from we object to him because he is vile to women and disabled children and disabled people.
Thank you for pointing out that some get irony and some don't we always need to be made aware of our foibles
volver yes, that Romesh, though I think he's grown up a lot since he was 9 years old!
I guess there are skeletons in everyone's wardrobe if you dig hard enough.

Are you saying that just because something happened years ago it should be forgiven and forgotten? I don't recall you feeling that way about Prince Andrew and his despicable actions which took place over 20 years ago - or is it one rule for those people you like and another for those you don't?
Can I just ask?
Is there a group of Grans who keep a file of what everybody posts about to bring out in evidence against them? I can't ever recall posting about Prince Andrew but maybe I did. ??
Although what it's got to do with this conversation I have no idea....Actually you started a thread about how the Queen should not have allowed him to walk her into Westminster Cathedral (look it up!)
Are your records computerised or do you have a very extensive paper filing system?
Either way, its not healthy.
Actually, I started a thread about whether the RF were losing touch with the prevailing feelings of the British public. So, like I say, making things up. Or just not understanding things. Take your pick

Seems volver does think if something happened over 20 years ago it should be forgotten - does that mean she has changed her opinion about PA
Why are you just making things up?
Run out of ideas?
Also, why are you talking about me in the third person? That's very weird.

Who do you go to see lixy?
(Yes, its a trick question)
In recent years Ed Burns and Romesh Ranganathan - our local theatre is close to London so they came to try out material.
Saw Dara O'Briain also but wouldn't go again - too many 'f's'.
Haven't been to see anyone for a few years - thank you Covid - but am looking forward to seeing Arthur Smith in the autumn.
OK?!
This Romesh Ranganathan?

I mean it was 20 years ago, but let's not let that be an excuse, eh?
Daily Mail 1, Common Sense 0
I'm not speaking for "all".
Just myself.
