Being in excellent health, I want to sell my house [I'm putting money into getting granny flat at my daughter's house]
I would love to travel and visit friends and family.
I also want to do a fundraising walk for Cancer Research

If you want to do it, then you are not too old!

Just make sure if you need any medicine that you have a supply with you and a letter from your GP stating why you take it, as a precaution at Customs and if you should need a doctor while away.

Pasca It was a village near to Pezenas. At least I think Pezenas was the nearest large town.

No so long as you have covered all scenarios and financially ok and that your health is good enough to embark on this exciting journey.

thanks to all of you for your positive thoughts.
Marydoll, have a lovely time away.
I cared for my mum for 6 years, she had dementia and passed away three years ago.I feel proud to have looked after her and now feel, this is my time for freedom x

Oh it is, so well deserved. Just make sure you have good insurance.

Go for it. We went when I was younger but was amazing. I’m sure there are groups on Facebook for the mature traveller etc.

Nothing to stop you. Just make sure you have good travel insurance. Bon voyage.

Not too old at all, take out good life insurance and sort out any repeat meds and take emergency medical kit and have a ball - good luck, I’m very jealous xxx

Go for it !
I would !
Lucky you !

Go for it. My father did the same except he rented out his house out for a year. This paid for his travels. He had a wonderful time.
Let us know on Gransnet how the travels progress. Feeling green with envy. Go Granny Go!! (Don’t forget to renew your passport if needed)

Nannapat1 Wed 10-May-23 12:11:34

No, absolutely not! Go and enjoy every minute!

leeds22 Wed 10-May-23 12:14:05

Go for it. We are now restricted to Europe due to my health problems/insurance premiums but we have some great memories to look back on.

LovelyLady Wed 10-May-23 12:16:23

I’m feeling quite excited for you.

Juicylucy Wed 10-May-23 12:16:33

Go explore, do not let any negativity stop you. Especially what ifs, we’d never live our life’s if it was all about, but what if.
Love to hear the stories from your travels, so excited for you.

You're definitely not too old but slightly more vulnerable if you're going alone. My DH and I have done a lot of travelling and it's always useful having another person for carrying things, minding them when you go to the toilet, decision making, sharing costs. Having said that it's wonderful to go travelling with or without a companion so follow your own instincts. Have fun.

You are only too old when you stop breathing!! you may not always be able to travel as you could when you were younger but you will find a way. I am 77 and still travelling and planning to keep doing it as long as possible. The only real regrets when you look back over life is what you didnt do. Even things that you did not enjoy in the end , was worth experiencing and you find out things about yourself and live the life that whilst you were bringing up a family , no doubt had to put things on hold, or fit in with other people . Go Go Go, and do it. Good Luck

And don’t forget to send us a postcard! grin

Oh please go and do it. On fb there are a few groups for women over 50 that travel solo, have a look and see how much fun they are having.

Go for it. I am 82 and in February flew out to Thailand to visit my son and family. Unfortunately I had an accident, ended up in hospital and being medically evacuated home. I hope to go again next year as I don't want this to be my last memory

Pythagorus Wed 10-May-23 12:28:34

I am 76 and have started going away for 3 months every winter on my own. Last year I went to a Caribbean island and rented a villa. It was great to miss most of the winter.
Definitely not too old, sometimes you have to jump and grow your wings on the way down!
The thing I would be careful of is the granny flat at your daughters. I have known this happen with many people and it rarely works out!

Jay21 Wed 10-May-23 12:31:36

Try cruising if you haven't already. It's a great way to see the world and meet lots of lovely people, many of whom will be single travellers like yourself - in fact go on a world cruise! I'm volunteering to carry your bags 😊🙌

Go for it my parents flew with me in their early 90’s to Tokyo. My D hadn’t been there since WW2 they had a great time went all over the place. Do as much as you can while you are able too. How exciting it will be
