🦞 The Lockdown Gang still chatting 🦞
Today in the middle of a torrential rain storm I was approached about our Christmas plans. Has anyone else given Christmas a thought yet? The conversation ended with a gleeful they were flying off to warmer climes tomorrow.

How long can you keep home-made mincemeat?
I’ve certainly used some that was a year old. But if it looks and smells OK, I’d use older MM too.
I dare say the sugar and brandy are very good preservatives!
They might as well wait until September 🎶🎵🎶🎵
Adapted from a song by Carole King (very apt!).

I don't go full out on carols till October too Witzend but have just a handful scattered around my Amazon music compilations. I agree that they're special.
I can hear little voices coming from a bag hidden in a box in the cupboard under the stairs.
They're singing Away in a Manger, While Shepherds Watched and We Three Kings. 👼🐑🤴👳♂️🤴
Are they trying to tell you something, do you think?? 😉

Witzend I don’t dislike Christmas . I enjoy it all but I don’t like it all starting in August.
Of course if you are likely to be travelling long distances ,plans need to be made earlier.
I am a crafter so yes, I might star projects earlier but In general surely November is quite early enough.

Why don’t people who dislike 🎄or dread it, just ignore threads like this? You’re not obliged to read them if they get your blood pressure up!
Those of us who do Christmassy crafts mostly have to think about it and start early. I started this lot in June, so quite pleased with progress so far, in between non 🎄projects.
Their robes have to be pinned on inside out and wet, so that they hang properly when finally finished. Two shepherds, one Joseph, one King From Persian Lands Afar.
Scenic backdrop of stuff all over the dining room table. 🙂
Lovely project!

Mention of it should be officially censored by Gransnet until nearer the time. Date to be decided 👍
Why read a thread when you have no interest in it, there are threads I ignore when it does not interest me, there was a clue in the title as to what it was about.
Because it appears in trending or active
it's beginning of August- bah humbug!
I have booked the steam train Christmas illuminations and panto seats for grandsons. Booked panto tickets last January

It’s always the same with GN 🎄threads - a few demanding that no mention should be made until they personally deem it acceptable.

Harris27, I'm with you and this damp, mizzly weather is just perfect for christmas crafting evenings with a festive film. Mince pie anyone?
I put the electric blanket on last night!

I have already booked five weeks in Gran Canaria, which may well become seven, if finances allow!

In our family we need to discuss Christmas plans around now, so that some people can book accommodation in this very popular part of the country. After the August discussion it doesn't get mentioned until around October. But I play some carols all year round for the sheer joy of their message.
I absolutely love traditional carols too, but I don’t allow myself to play any before 1st December, or the beginning of Advent, whichever comes first. Which is daft really, but it does keep them ‘special’.
Same with mince pies - first batch (homemade, I don’t like shop ones, too much thick pastry) as near as poss to 1st December/Advent.
Otherwise dh and I would be making 🐷🐷 of ourselves for far too long!

There is no point in protesting; Christmas has started already.
(Plastic) tins of Roses, Quality Street and Celebrations ate on sale, reduced, in Tesco.

I am reliably informed that it will occur on the 25th of December.
Yes witzend 25 0f Dec not 5 of august. I sympathise with grans who are expecting family from abroad and are looking forward to it I had to do it for many years.
I also realise that crafters think early. Our house when young was filled with Fruit cakes from August onwards my mother made and decorated them along with wedding cakes for all the family.
But for me, I start to think of Christmas after Halloween, end of September/early October at a push. I just could not believe the phone call in the middle of a torrential downpour at the beginning of August when most of us have not had a summer yet. With the ending of they were escaping it all today after getting everyone on edge about Christmas and wondered what others thought.
Thank goodness a lot feel like me.
Thanks, Witzend
I will retrieve them from their dark hiding place soon 🙂

Witzend do you put round pieces of thick cardboard in the bottoms?
Usually 2 pieces (from e.g. cereal packets) glued together. Every year I have to dig out the old school geometry set with the pair of compasses, to get the right size. The JG pattern does say what’s required - 6 cm diameter IIRC, and 8 cm for Mary, who’s ‘seated’.
This year I made them all in one go, less of a faff.
Lathyrus, yes, bobble-headed pins - ordinary pins are all too apt to disappear into the stuffing.
Oh they’re pins!
I thought they were little jewels.
It’s that attention to detail that I am so sadly lacking😳

Oh dear!
I just sewed up the ones that I've already done. 😲
After all, they have all travelled a long way and probably didn't have room for a travel iron.
I love this thread. Keepcalmandcavachon yes agree.
