To think GN is much more pleasant than MN?

This is not intended to be some sort of froth/unpleasant thread.

It's just that genuinely to scroll MN you need a bulletproof vest - here is a bit different.

To be true, I have no idea what I am even doing on GN.

I'm not even 30!

Hopefully no one will come after me with pitchforks grin

Informative too. That's why I dip into it while spending a couple of months away across the channel!

I find the vulgar language difficult to deal with. It isn't necessary and is a sad reflection on standards.

Casdon - the Jimberly thread
I tried to be quiet but just woke my husband up snorting!
😂
Thank you!!

I like the Archers thread but they are very nasty to anyone who is over 50 lives in a house on their own that have worked hard for over the years and think they should give them up to a younger family.
They swear a lot, think if your politcal views are different to thiers your "Bat Shit crazy", they like using that saying too and some think that Grandparents should provide free Children care and get really annoyed if its not offered.

I have just found the Jimberly posts by clicking on our bladder ad and doing a search. It is hilarious.

Gransnet, Mumsnet......it can only be a matter of time until we get Teensnet (or have we got that already?)

argymargy Fri 31-May-24 08:12:43

Gransnet may seem mild and cuddly but there is a darker side! It's generally more right wing, anti-feminist and sadly I have seen racist and xenophobic views expressed quite happily.

Iam64 Fri 31-May-24 09:01:29

argymargy. I agree.

Teensnet sounds decent...

When will we have Dadsnet?

Or Auntsnet?

I also agree withargymargy

I don't check out MN very much as I find it quite aggressive a lot of the time, but I agree that there are some funny threads. I don't like the consistent swearing much either. I'm not averse to the odd swear word, I've heard enough in my working life, but it makes the responses incredibly boring to read apart from anything else.

Lovetopaint037 Fri 31-May-24 10:43:06

Agree Gransnet is a kinder, more supportive place if you need helpful input and generally more varied content.

Welcome! Although I’m 65 we had our last three children later in life so I have three children in their 20’s still. I’m always telling them off for their language on the phone to their “friends” but most particularly they all play online games via the internet in consoles with headsets, the language is quite illuminating and loud! Can well do without it and my own language can be a little colourful at times, but it’s so unnecessary, some young people seem to have replaced some words like “really” and “very” with the word f*****g, in normal speech, not required at all!!!

biglouis Fri 31-May-24 11:02:43

there was this image of villagers with a pitchfork, I cannot quite remember the context but it stuck in my mind

Well you will get that on any forum where you express strong views and there are those weak souls who are "in the business of being offended"

It reminds me of the old Frankenstein films where the poor monster is being chased by the angry (but very dumb) villagers with their pitchforks.

Jaxjacky Fri 31-May-24 11:39:58

I’m on Mumsnet occasionally, just shows there’s not much new under the sun.

JaneJudge Fri 31-May-24 11:43:28

I find it too busy. Like the ADHD thing where you can hear everything all at once and it becomes overwhelming

mae13 Fri 31-May-24 12:26:48

BlendedFamilyNet?

mae13 Fri 31-May-24 12:29:24

Yes, the angry villagers with pitchforks who say ominous things to unwitting strangers like "you're not from round here, are you?"

And the entire village pub goes silent......

I like Mumsnet, though yes, you have to skim past the language if it offends. Even some of the usernames make me cringe, but that reflects the modern world in general, I’m afraid. Get past it and Mumsnet can be incredibly supportive, informative and very, very funny. And on the whole it’s just too big and moves too fast for things to get personal as they can do over here. I’m glad you’re enjoying Gransnet, but it can sometimes be far from pleasant.

Mumsnet can be pretty savage, and they’re not keen on Boomers/pensioners, and our “privilege”.

But, I do have a few laughs on there.

I like it too, and flick between forums regularly.

Ditto.

I initially found MN looking for recipes went on it for nothing else. Started on GN when I became a gran I contribute to some posts if I think I can help. But don’t get involved with current affairs politics etc life’s too short.
