AIBU

AIBU to find unreal threads annoying?

I know some people find them amusing, funny, or that they pass some time harmlessly.

I find them annoying amongst other things. Irritating. I think ,hasnt someone got anything whatsoever, better to do in life?

I often wait and see if the op at least returns to a thread, before bothering to reply.

Doesnt help that I am not always right as to which threads are duds, and the handful which turn out to be real.

Just ranting really.

I prefer to give the benefit of doubt and just reply if I chose to and assume its genuine

Me too because reading it may help someone

There was a really weird one the other day, in the early hours - encouraging some sort of witchcraft and potions to make us happy.

I did report it, when I’d stopped laughing, as they were seemingly asking for money.

It was removed swiftly.😉

It’s not that though Madgran but people sometimes put their heart and soul into a reply maybe even speaking of their own similar problems or doing research to help find answers and meanwhile these idiots are taking people for fools It’s not on

I’m too busy to waste time on junk. Plenty of fiction books to choose from.

I just want to say CanadianGran how much I enjoyed reading your account of a recent holiday with your family in the remote cabin.
Are you planning another trip there soon?

BlueBelle Fri 31-May-24 21:09:33

I didn’t see that one Smileless

It is sometimes hard to judge BlueBelle but not always, as some of us found today.

VioletSky Fri 31-May-24 20:09:11

It's an anonymous forum, of course people are going to find it and join it to ask a difficult question...

And they are going to find it and join it by looking for a grandparents website, the search function works globally

Being that we would like this forum to remain profitable and active, we should be more welcoming to new members instead of driving them off with suspicion and unfriendliness

fancythat Fri 31-May-24 18:22:02

And exactly what BlueBelle says.
Who is putting everything much better than I have! grin

BlueBelle Fri 31-May-24 18:13:57

No one is concerned about regular posters or. posters from anywhere but surely most people joining a new overseas site would introduce themselves and post a few times before working up to their problems

Most of the suspect US ones have been mainly daughter in law problems and usually very lengthy and wordy and not realistic, with the poster rarely coming back, or sometimes just briefly to show ‘shock horror’

It is hard to judge though

Of vourse you are not unwelcome!

And for the record, I have looked for a similar Canadian forum and there isn't one

Gosh. They are missing a trick.

CanadianGran Fri 31-May-24 18:03:35

Thanks for those sticking up for me, I love this site and would not like to think I am unwelcome.

And for the record, I have looked for a similar Canadian forum and there isn't one. Years ago Chatelaine Magazine had a chat forum and I was a regular there, but I think they found moderating it became a burden when it got too popular! I was sad when they closed it down.

Where does it say Gransnet UK?

I'm suddenly feeling unwelcome here.

Not at all unwelcome Canadiangran.. this is a very international site and all are welcome.. it's just a bit tedious when people are rather obviously wasting our time sometimes..

Fancythat
If they serched their problem GN would probably come up.
Anyway it’s irrelevant because most of them are AI generated.

I am unsure how you go from new poster to regular poster safely now if you aren't from the UK lol

Well there are things you wouldnt do.

You wouldnt
Be a first poster and ask a se xual question as a first one.
You wouldnt have a terrible problem that needed to be answered immediately, with a huge long list of details. As a first post.

You would generally just join in current conversations.

Ok, what is odd about it?

If you have a genuine problem, would you, as a one off, run to a different country's chat site?

Do you personally do that?

It wouldnt enter my head to go, oh yes, I have fallen out with a relation. Who shall I ask for help? Oh yes, I will find a random American chat site, and ask there.

CanadianGran

I'm suddenly feeling unwelcome here.

I certainly dont mean posts from regular contributors.

I am meaning those threads which are dubious, and seem to have been started from a suspicious US source.

I've started a thread where I am having a conversation with myself grin

Dont worry, there will be another such thread along tomorrow.

JaneJudge Fri 31-May-24 16:48:37

I'm a bit sad that the all the red flags was deleted whilst i was out sad
