I would appreciate your advice on the fair thing to do

My DH and I are going to join his three sisters on a 5 day holiday break in September in a four bedroomed cottage. Payment is now due. The sister who has made the booking also has a DH. The other two sisters are single. She has asked what we think about how we split the payment, ie do we split it by four, with two couples taking two bedrooms and the single sisters taking the other two bedrooms (her preference) or split by 6, the two couples paying a third each and the single occupants paying a sixth each. I haven’t got a bee in my bonnet about it but would really appreciate your thoughts.

Split it by 6. There are six of you are there not?

Split by 6.

I think it's mean to charge per room so the sisters pay double!

Ha ha.
If you have to pay by room (like a hotel) - what happens if the sisters decide to share??

Splitting by 6 seems fairest to me, ie price per head. If you split it by 4, that means the two singles are partly paying for 1 of each couple, which seems unfair.

Slit by six and then have draws when you get there for rooms.. Or the person doing the most work organising and shopping gets first dibs..

Split by 6.

@pascal30

Good idea on first dibs. A friend of me one goes to all trouble of organising a weekend away for herself and 3 other old school friends every year. She likes to do all the organising and they are happy to let her but is on the understanding she gets to pick her room first, and drinks are paid for on the first night.

I would split it by the 6 of you and treat everyone as an individual with regards to any payments incurred.
Have a wonderful time

I said split by 4 this morning, but reading all these comments, I think I've changed my mind.
In my defence, (!!) , because I let a property with 6 bedrooms, I was thinking that servicing a bedroom and cleaning the bathroom took just as much work whether one person had used it or two, so the charge should be by room.As an aside, I sometimes used to listen to guests on arrival deciding who was to have which bedroom. It was quite funny!

Definitely split by six. Also food by six.
