Yesterday was a wet windy grey day and I was thinking how lovely it would be to put the tree up but as a family we have always waited for the first weekend in December , until this year both my daughters have just sent me photos of their Christmas trees they put up yesterday [ grin ]

If that's what you want to do then go for it surfingsal.

Oh, put it up if it cheers you. smile
Why deny yourself?

My family have put their trees up I'm putting ours up mid week it brightens up our house.

I think you should do whatever you want to do. I’m not bothered about Christmas decorations but I do love listening to Christmas music/songs and started this weekend with them.

It's not even December!

Usedtobeblonde Sun 24-Nov-24 10:30:38

I could never put mine up until the middle of December, partly because I would be sick of the sight of it by Christmas and partly because it just doesn’t seem right to me.
I am reading a book set around Christmas and last evening we watched a comedy film called Click and Collect which brightened up a very dreary day.

Yes, this! Personally, I think the earlier people put up their tree and decorations etc, the more it devalues the whole thing - but hey, each to their own!

Must say I was a bit 😱 the other day at seeing dozens of big, real trees (cut, not potted) outside a big Asda.
You do have to wonder what sort of state they’ll be in by Christmas Day. Even the non-drop ones will hardly look or smell exactly fresh.

Fleurpepper Sun 24-Nov-24 10:35:28

We always have a real tree from our local forest (from our village Council) - they cut them to give space and light to others, so it is truly ecological. They them take them back for chipping for heating- so all good. It never comes in therefore until a few days before so it stays fresh.

But you do what you want to do- nothing to do with anyone else. If it cheers you up- go for it.

We always put ours up on our wedding anniversary, it was also my dad's birthday, 12th Dec. When we were young we decorated on 10th Dec, my sisters birthday.

Our young granddaughter and her boyfriend came and put all our decorations and trees up yesterday. It was the day of their choice, we enjoyed having them and they enjoyed working on it together with plenty of refreshments served by us. Yes it is a bit early but we were grateful for the assistance and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

I saw 2 in people's houses last week. But mine will go up on the 1st and my grandsons will decorate it .I only put on the lights and the breakable ornaments. I always take mine down on new year's day.

YES!
🤣🤣🤣

TopGunner Sun 24-Nov-24 11:00:25

Yes, put it up, my family have all their trees up and even homes in my street have decorated outside their homes. Christmas only lasts two days this year so get trimming up.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 24-Nov-24 11:04:45

I know I have posted this before, when my C were at Primary school they always had a Carol service/concert on the Wednesday of the week which had 15th December in it.
My H used to set the tree up, always real, and when we got home we would decorate it.
It was a tradition for several years.
I do still put it up around then, usually the weekend before and it’s an artificial one now.

keepingquiet Sun 24-Nov-24 11:12:27

Are you also buying Easter eggs? Making pancakes? Letting off fireworks and dressing up as a vampire?

If so then go ahead- have Christmas now as it clearly doesn't mean much but I wonder what you will do when January comes, maybe send Valentine's cards?

In fact why bother even having birthdays or anniversaries on the actual dates?

It seems we can do what we want in this crazy world so yes, go ahead.

I'm going to have Christmas at Christmas though, call me old-fashioned!

I don't understand that last sentence. If Xmas only lasts two days (?) why put your tree up now?

As I’ve written before, I’m a Bah Humbug Christmas person. My decorations (ha - a couple of pop up trees and a fireplace garland) will go up the weekend before the Day and come down Boxing Day or the day after.
DD1 tells me she put up hers yesterday - madness!

HeavenLeigh Sun 24-Nov-24 11:24:19

I’m the same as you georgesgran 🤣👊

Bea65 Sun 24-Nov-24 11:28:46

When on a short drive out, I like to see the homes that have dressed the windows and outside … NOVEMBER is much too early for me .. and , my tree blocks the big radiator and can’t put it anywhere else in my small house…

ginny Sun 24-Nov-24 11:35:59

Too early for us.
Ours will go up after 11 th December. It’s DD2s birthday on the 11 and we always waited for her to have her own day before we did anything Christmas and have carried on.
DD3 we definitely have hers up on the 1st Dec.
I love the decorations for a couple of weeks but they are down again by January 3rd.

Those repetitive, ad infinitum Christmas songs forced down our throats for the last 40 years are what I hate about Christmas! When I hear ‘do they know it’s Christmas’, for the tenth time in one day, I want to throw myself under the nearest bus.
I love Christmas. It’s Band Aid, bl**dy Brenda Lee and the like that I hate. Please can we have some new Christmas songs??

Witzend Sun 24-Nov-24 11:47:03

Ours will be going up earlier than usual, on about the 12th December. That’s because we’re going to be away (a long drive) from 13th-16th, and my sister will be arriving from across the pond on the 17th.

It will come down on/around 6th Jan as usual - but that is also younger Gdd’s birthday so we could be helping at her party.

Jaxjacky Sun 24-Nov-24 12:15:44

Each to their own, two houses near us have outside lights up. Our real tree will be up and dressed on the 14th, coming down after my sons birthday on the 2nd January.
