I hate Chicken soup

There are words that I keep in reserve for exactly this kind of situation. My aunt used to say ‘I’m just going out for a bit of Anglo-Saxon therapy’ and disappear into the garden shed.

I hope you managed to say a lot of them very loudly without anyone overhearing! and that it helped.

Why don't you just buy some good quality ready made chicken soup.
Hide it in the fridge and add a few onions or carrots or spices.
Would he really notice the difference.
It would save you all that labour and the smell.

My DH could never stand the smell of chicken soup cooking either. It ranks second in my top five “last meals on earth”, just below fish pie, which he couldn’t stand either. And home made chicken broth/soup is extremely good for you, so you are catering for his health too😁!

I think you are a hero making this stuff! Dare I say that 'down the drain' is the best place for all the varieties of chicken soup that I have consumed (although yours may be in a league of its own!). I do feel so very sorry for you...I'd be heartbroken after all that faff and stink. I'd definitely have cried, not laughed!

You can buy ready made fresh chicken stock in some supermarkets. Buy that and then just add the extras.

Your DH could of course make his own chicken soup, and you could go out on the days he makes it.

I have tried that in the past , the look on his face after one spoonful said it all ! I think the smell of the simmering Chicken is preferable to letting him loose in the kitchen .

I also hate the smell of chicken soup. Yuk!

I’ve done it with a colander. So mad at the waste - all that gas while simmering the carcass, too! I use the stock in various dishes, not just soup.

I don't make chicken soup but I do make stock. I use an Instapot using the pressure cooker function but I let it go cold before removing the lid and straining it. That greatly reduces the smell and also the cooking time.

I’m not keen on chicken soup but sometimes have just blitzed leftovers from a slow-cooked chicken casserole and eaten it as soup, reheated in the microwave. Hardly any smell.

I did this as a young bride cooking our first Xmas lunch. Cooked and sieved the giblets and pushed the cooked carrots and onions through it too. Then realised I hadn’t put my jug underneath and it all went down the plug hole.

Can't he make the soup himself? Then you could go for a nice long walk, shopping trip or anything else while he cooks and airs the kitchen.

I love homemade chicken soup especially if I have a cold. Understand where you’re coming from though as hate the smell of cinnamon cooking and have to leave the room.

not sure where you live but in this area we have a small Jewish population and Waitrose stocks brands called Osem and Telma which is vegetarian but tastes similar to chicken soup. add some dumplings and he wont be able to tell the difference.

I couldn’t make it the same.
It’s really nourishing.

Try it. You won’t regret it and maybe get Dh to try and save you the trouble of making it from scratch.

I’m not bothered by the smell of chicken soup cooking , but what I can’t stand is the smell of cheese cooking . My granddaughters favourite meal is macaroni cheese and if I walk into the kitchen and it’s in the oven then the smell sends me straight out again .
