My husband loves homemade chicken soup, so every now and again I will make a large batch , I hate the smell it makes me feel sick and I find the whole process long winded but I know its his favourite and the fact he says it is nicer than his mothers is a nice compliment .
Today was the day I thought I could open all the windows to get rid of the smell , so after simmering the chicken etc for most of the morning it was all cooked and ready to strain, shame I forgot to put the dish underneath the sieve ! most of the soup went down the drain before I realised what I had done, I think there is enough for a couple of bowlfuls , I didn't know whether to laugh or cry !

Can't he make the soup himself? Then you could go for a nice long walk, shopping trip or anything else while he cooks and airs the kitchen.

Just what I was thinking? What's so great about chicken soup anyway? Can't you both make food you both enjoy?

I am a great believer in trading gifts. So when my son was little, I hated sewing, but had a mother who was a very good seamstress and so I knew what I wanted and had a good sense of style At the same time I was quite a good cook and imaginative cake maker etc. So we swapped skills. I bought the material and told her what I needed for his trousers with extra big hems as he grew very quickly and I made her son a great birthday cake, with homemade jam etc in it which she paid for the ingredients. Results were two happy children, and two mothers who werent frustrated and used their good skills. So if it is only that particular soup you cant stand, then again find someone you could swap soups with, or exchange some other skill and let them make lots. Then freeze some and you will be saved the miserable hassle.

My mother used to give us Heinz chicken soup when we were children in the 60s - if it was good enough for her it's good for me too! All we have ever had 😊 and saves a lot of faff!
