When one partner likes to be naked

I re-married 8 years ago, my husband and I are both in our late 70s. Turns out he likes to garden naked. (we moved a few years ago and to a house where we’re not overlooked). He gets irritable when I say I don’t like him sitting on the furniture or wandering around gardening. Bending down to plant or prune. (If you see where I’m going with this) He just says “well don’t look!” He’s fit and active and not mentally impaired, Just rather stubborn. Am I being unreasonable?

Buy some prickly plants, holly, berberis etc., and plant round the garden. Ha ha!

If you in Britain there can't be many days in the year that he'll want to be outside and starkers. Stay indoors and leave him be.

Surely you knew this before you married and as you've accepted it for the last 8 yrs he's unlikely to change now. I've read that naturists always carry a towel to sit on for hygiene purposes, seems to be sensible. I would point this out to your DH and insist he does the same.
I wouldn't have any problem with the nude gardening except for thinking of the dangers of insect bites, stings, sunburn or thorny plants.

We have all seen it all, but who wants to see a geriatric nude wandering about the house. I wouldn't stay with him, no way. He is selfish, unless of course you started married life having seen and fully aware of his life in the nude, if that is the case you obviously had no problem with it. I would have made a swift exit. You can’t have any visitors I imagine.

Late second marriage for both of us. I don’t remember him doing this in our previous house as we were overlooked. But now we’re not, and it’s become a battle of wills. I can see some readers are for, and some against my reactions, and I think I’m just going to have to put up with it. Glad to know I’m not alone though, on finding it very off-putting!

Unfortunately, although you are not overlooked, there is a chance that the postie or delivery person might catch a glimpse and spread the word. I am sorry that you are having to put up with this. Are there any family members who could back you up?

Each to his own I suppose but I know when I go out to prune the roses and shrubs, I've been scratched to ribbons. The thought of doing it naked gives me the vapours ( clutching my pearls here) wink

I'm presuming this man is not on blood thinners as he'd be gashing himself and bleeding everywhere.
I keep nagging advising DH to wear long sleeves and thick gardening gauntlets.

Divorce him!! have you 'put up' with this for the 8 years since you married?

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Jun-25 10:22:06

Nitpick48 What does he get out of it? Does it turn him on? I can't see the benefits.

Vitamin D?

Tablets are an alternative.

Jaxjacky Sun 15-Jun-25 10:56:11

There are roughly 7 million naturists in the UK lemsip and Sparklefizz it’s not that unusual

Someone’s having a laugh. Wouldn’t fancy mozzie bites up my bum.

Ziggy62 Sun 15-Jun-25 11:10:47

Strangely there's a very similar post on MN

If he gets stung he will learn the hard way.

This.
It isn’t just insect bites though is it? There’s all manner of scratchy, prickly plants and weeds. And I wouldn’t want him sitting on any seating that I might use or even guests might use.
I would also be mindful of some larger birds, particularly birds of prey on the hunt for their next meal 😱

BlueBelle Sun 15-Jun-25 12:13:41

JamesandJon I ve seen it all without being a life artist 🤣🤣
“Does it turn him on?” Probably will Soarklefizz if he get a thistle up his bum or a nettle on his John Thomas
I ve absolutely no problem with nudity men or women but you have to be practical you can be very ill from insect bites even on arms and legs let alone bums and dangly bits

OP has posted before on GN a few times previously, sensible posts too.

Delila I was trying to be delicate. There is often a lot of pearl clutching on here 🤭

... "prudish"... "pearl-clutching"...

Is there a compulsion to be so dismissively rude about those who - for various reasons - might hold different opinions, or have different feelings? Neither of which automatically means that person is a prude or a pearl-clutcher.

Anyway, those descriptions are subjective.

I can see the benefit of pootling around in the garden in the all-together, but cannot understand why it's so attractive to be naked in, for example, the kitchen, or the sitting room.

It's aesthetically not very pleasing - there's a reason why nudists carry around towels to sit on when out and about in public places. Genital areas are warm and damp - they sweat.
