When one partner likes to be naked

I re-married 8 years ago, my husband and I are both in our late 70s. Turns out he likes to garden naked. (we moved a few years ago and to a house where we’re not overlooked). He gets irritable when I say I don’t like him sitting on the furniture or wandering around gardening. Bending down to plant or prune. (If you see where I’m going with this) He just says “well don’t look!” He’s fit and active and not mentally impaired, Just rather stubborn. Am I being unreasonable?

Oh for goodness sake Jameandjon how I hate that put down insinuating all old ladies are pearlclutchers I bet most ‘old’ ladies on here have seen and put up with more than most young people have ever even thought about
Very little that can shock us
Your name and your post implies you’re a man but that may be or may not be
I have not got a care in the world if the man has the whole of his body exposed to the elements and neighbours when gardening I ve already seen many shapes and sizes over the years, not so good for him if the insects or stinging nettles bite and probably not such a pretty sight for the neighbours if he’s getting on a bit

I m not even sure it’s a genuine post as why get uptight eight years after ?

Delila I was trying to be delicate. There is often a lot of pearl clutching on here 🤭

If he gets stung he will learn the hard way.

Good gracious, Whatever are you moaning about. At least he is a man with a mind and not a prudish one. Embrace the day

What makes you think this is anything to do with his mind?

Years ago I had a very attractive friend who used to sunbathe naked. She lived in a fairly remote cottage in Cornwall with high hedges all round the garden, so there were no neighbours to see her. However the helicopters from Culdrose Naval base used to fly over every day!

Hmm...

Reminds me of an occasion many years ago when I was being shown round a house by the estate agent. Looking down from the bedroom window we saw the next door neighbour sunbathing naked.

It was a very warm day....

It wouldn’t bother me, I’d join in if we weren’t overlooked.

Lesley60 Fri 13-Jun-25 18:51:19

I wouldn’t like my husband doing that, why can’t he just wear baggy shorts and have a bare top half.
I hope he wears plenty of sunscreen he wouldn’t want to burn any delicate areas 😂

You could always buy him one of those gardening belts to keep his pruners, gloves and plant ties in.

Claremont Fri 13-Jun-25 18:33:40

Agree too.

Elowen33 Fri 13-Jun-25 18:29:59

I agree with him, dont look. It is his garden too.

Parsley3 Fri 13-Jun-25 17:35:22

If you are sure that you are not overlooked I am afraid you will have to live with this but do take the cushions off the cane chairs.

I would just do something else and ignore him, especially if he gets sunburn. I used to do my housework in the niff when I was menopausal- couldn't bear getting sweaty!

Poppyred Fri 13-Jun-25 17:22:14

Did you know that before you married him?? Yuck, that would have put me right off him and running for the hills!

Retread Fri 13-Jun-25 17:16:54

Eeee ...some older people can be a bit ... drippy. I'd strenuously object. It's not just about looking. 🫣

BlueBelle Fri 13-Jun-25 16:35:25

Well I wouldnt like it but if he’s been doing it for 8 years he’s not going to change now… how come you didn’t tell him 8 years ago ?
The mind boggles glad he’s not my neighbour guess the beans aren’t the only things dangling

AuntieE Fri 13-Jun-25 16:33:39

Let him do as he likes in the garden, and ask him in return to put on his boxer shorts before sitting down indoors.

Marriage is a matter of compromise, as often as not.

Allira Fri 13-Jun-25 16:15:55

Is this the front garden?

Lathyrus3 Fri 13-Jun-25 16:09:41

Put a towel on the chair.

Aldom Fri 13-Jun-25 16:09:35

I would look at a supplier of products for people who are incontinent. You will find chair protector pads on the website. Your husband's garden chair could have a pad on the seat for hygiene reasons. I agree with you, it's not pleasant/hygienic having uncovered bottoms on furniture.

LucyAnna5 Fri 13-Jun-25 16:06:51

This can’t be news to you after all this time? Is he usually naked in the house? On holiday?

kittylester Fri 13-Jun-25 16:06:39

I think you are being unreasonable.

butterandjam Fri 13-Jun-25 16:01:12

A leopard in his late 70's is never going to change his spots.

Just don't sit on his favourite spot chair.

Desdemona Fri 13-Jun-25 16:00:21

Do you have to be in the garden at the same time as him?
