I caught this on the link you sent Basgetti, a truly gifted young poet whom at first sight I was not taken with at all. He sounded and looked more like someone from TOWIE. But my goodness he was a breath of fresh air. Would recommend people listen to his poem without being put off by the fact it is on BGT.
Restores your faith in human nature whilst the likes of Farage and his cronies try everything possible to destroy it.

Basgetti - About 10 years ago I became a performance poet, somewhat to my own surprise. All over the world there are open mic events where writers are encouraged to share their work, often (since Covid) on Zoom as well as in real life. I have heard many impressive people, of a range of ages, sharing their words and have shared some of mine. If this is all new to you do give it a try, audience members are always welcome.
I now have poet friends and connections all over the world and have spent some wonderful time with them whether in a London pub, a festival or from my sofa.
Suddenly at 76 my life became far more interesting and I am grateful to my grandchildren who have encouraged me and come to open mics - having been reassured that they are not expected to speak themselves! I hope some of you may try the poetry events too.

I am 76 and am so in awe of what you have done. Am afraid I am no poet but if you ever do an open mic performance in Lewisham or Greenwich let me know.

Thank you!My first teaching job was 1960 near Camberwell Green. I remember how thrilled the children (and I!) were to explore the Cutty Sark. Now I would like to visit the Migration Museum.

Suggesting is fine, but insisting people do something isn't. I wouldn't be interested in it, I don't like poetry.

I saw this young man on BGT and DH & I adored him and his message!

I enjoyed that, thanks for recommending it. I then watched him reciting a poem he'd written for his 7 year old son, very heartfelt and moving.

BGT isn't a programme I watch, so I wouldn't have come across Sonny Green, but I found him likeable and talented, his clips are worth a watch 🙂.

Fallingstar thank you for the link just watched ..He says everything I think not just about England but Great Britain . I live in the north west of England flag flying here is a way of life that has gone on for decades . Being proud to belong to a community that cares . Northerners right across the north ,Welsh and Scottish I have found to be a lot more caring and kinder people . Doesn't matter who they are what colour , religion or like me an atheist.

Until 2019 I lived in the black country. I couldn't leave until I was 61. You couldn't pay me a million pounds to ever go back . To many people who only care about themselves .

I live north of a large city I was welcome with open arms from my first day in my in my bungalow. My postman knocked my door after 3 days and introduced himself and said I am P your postman . Where I used to live never had the same postman 2 days running. My neighbours are lovely . Where I used to live I could have been dead and no one would have noticed until the smell.

Here I went away to visit my brother and sister in law for a few days my first year here and my neighbours missed me the first day . They where relieved to see my daughter the next as they had been looking through my windows incase I was on the floor.

Should say I am disabled from birth . It's so lovely having people that care and don't see the disability and look me in the face when talking . I have had no abuse shouted at me since moving here and when I have fallen had help getting up .

In the black country had abuse shouted at me and people walk by while I struggled to get back up .

The poem sums up what living here means to me.
