I m much more worried about this call ‘from the bank’ to sort it out afterwards!!!
Exdancer please come back and tell us if this is ok as the second part of your post sounds really worrying to me hopefully I m just over reacting but that bank call sounds like THE SCAM and the get a fee box was the enticement
I had something similar and the bank call was genuine. I received two calls on my mobile, which I did not pick up. The number looked familiar, but ti was not on my contact list so I decided to try one of those sites that identify phone numbers.I just clicked on the first one to come up (idiot). It told em the number was in Birmingham, but I had to pay 50p or £1 for the full number, so idiot that I was, I did. The information I got was useless.
The next day I got a call from the bank saying please click this number. I didn't, but I dialled the number on my credit card and they did the relevant security checks and put me through to the fraud unit, who told me the company I clicked on was a scam and they had put a monthly direct debit charge for £30 onto my account.
My debit card was immediately cancelled and I was sent a new one, so I suffered no financial harm. I check my bank statement every month, so I would have noticed and dealt with it after a month, but I was impressed by the way the bank had a list of all scams known to them and every person who signed up to one - like me, was immediately contacted and saved, what in some cases, could have been a significant financial loss.
