What is your craft?

I just said, on another thread, that I didn't take to card making because all my hard work gets thrown in the bin shock and it made me wonder what everyone else enjoys.

My craft seems to be "Christmas" which seems to suit my rather butterfly mind. It may, in any one year, include sewing, crochet (do knit but it's not a favourite), and original style decoupage - flat not 3D. I am currently learning to use a rather elderly embroidery machine which I bought second hand to personalise some gifts and decorations - it only has a small hoop but that is all I need and I am going to try folk art when there is a gap!

I am sure some of you are less inclined to flitter and I would love to know what you do.

Falcon if they turn out ok I shall post picys (been a long project as it was in the "other" bedroom) ! also have some Shabby chic birds to make for the bedroom so plenty to keep me busy smile good luck with the crocheting it seems to be making a big come back .

Love shabby chic biker - look forward to pics. I'm busy working on a single size crochet bed cover for gd1. I've made about five smaller ones and she loves them - so I must keep crocheting.

Went on a boat on the broads years ago, it was nerve wracking at times but fun.

grannyactivist I would love to sit on the back of your kayak and cruise around smile I went canoeing a few times on the canal with school (many years ago) and loved it, but have never done anything since..hmm

My craft at the moment is shabby chic furniture for my bedroom, which I will post picys of soon.

I'm making a mouse tree house I saw on pinterest, really intricate and fiddly to do but I get so engrossed and hours go by without me realising it.

I do a variety of crafts, knit or crochet on winter evenings. I sew when I have a project in mind. I have a Cricut die cutting machine that I love, so I make cards, do themed stuff for parties .

I made a lot of Christmas stuff including personalised tree baubles . Lots of paper cutting too. I like a bit of everything.

What's my craft? I used to put dolls houses together to give to Charity Raffles. Is there anyone out there who would like to help rekindle this? I am now a Granny recently moved with what will be a comfortable hobby room in the garden. Informal get together soon to finish a host of kits . Model making of fruit, veg etc for shops. Endless bits and bobs to do. Not sure how I promote this without giving my whereabouts at this stage.

I have found this thread so inspiring and am itching to get started on something again. I love all your photos. I am not artistic but I like the idea of making things and playing with colour. I had quite forgotten about rug making - I made a readicut one when I was at school and enjoyed doing it. I love knitting but hate sewing up the pieces and am not good at picking up stitches to make borders - I made a beautiful cot blanket for my DGD but have only completed 3 sides of the border and she is 5 now! I have several sections of a hand made hexagonal pieced quilt somewhere in the attic that I began when I was expecting my DS, oh no - 40 years ago . . . My sewing machine is also in the attic and has been for the last 15 years, I must get it down again now that I have a bit more time to play. I have just looked at the crochet video suggested as I have been wanting to learn, but can't find my crochet hooks (we are having building work done and everything is packed away) and of course I want it NOW! Adult colouring on my iPad is keeping me -sane- occupied whilst we are camping in one room for the duration of the build - it's easy to rub out!

I'm making some of mine this year, too. I don't always, I worry that people might get fed up with my stuff, so some years I buy, others I make. I'm making a few knitted cabled cowls this year, I shall find some nice buttons and have them so that they button up. I've just finished a big jumper for DBH, it's burgundy and has a big white snowflake on the chest.

I knit, sew, crotchet, paint, sketch, colour and have in the past macramé, pottery, calligraphy and many others. today I used an old linen apron and made a shopping bag, put on a modern heart applique. I also recycled a scrap of cotton and made a small tablecloth for a tiny table and am going to knit when I watch downton. I just love making things and will be making xmas gifts this year.

Going to look up Pocket Letters discorpion, never heard of them although I have made ATC's in the past.
I make a few cards but I mainly do Scrapbooking now. At the moment I'm trying to get old photos sorted and into layouts to go alongside the family tree. I have done albums for both my sons too, going from the day they were born up until present day.
I have done a lot of Cross stitch but find the eyesight isn't so good now!

I go to a WI craft group once a month too! What other things have you done Buddie? - it would be good to get more ideas. We have done silk painting (cards), glass etching, tatting, as well as the things you mention. This week it's Christmas decorations.

I love crafts but I am a starter, once i see what something is going to look like , I loose interest.
Over the years i have dabbled in jewellery making, beading, string art, needle felting, upholstery, soft toy making, paper making, rag rugging, stained glass, life drawing, quilling, calligraphy, upholstery, patchwork, watercolours, crochet, papier mache, pottery, cross stitch, embroidery, candle making, tie dying, mobile making.
These days I mainly stick to knitting, sewing and card making .
Now where did I see that glass painting course???

discorpion Wed 28-Oct-15 19:17:31

I have just discovered Pocket Letters (a kind of papercraft similar to Artist Trading Cards). Used to do cross stitch but always bought huge kits with dragons and fantasy art, and never finished them.

This is beautiful, It once took me 4 yrs to finish a rug because I worked at the time. But I really love this. Thank for showing it.

Roxannediane those are lovely.

I do like those crocheted toys, very effective.

Greyduster Sun 18-Oct-15 09:47:35

Roxannediane I'm intrigued by the chicken. How did you make that? Is it hollow?

mollie Sun 18-Oct-15 08:23:06

Ah, I've seen this. Have the family been warned they may be getting a zoo? Lol!

grannyactivist Sat 17-Oct-15 22:36:52

mollie, the book he's working through is called Edward's Menagerie and having made Siegfried the Monkey and Emma the bunny we're waiting to discover who will make an appearance next.

Pottery - love it!! Make lots of totally useless items but it's fun!!

queenie53 Sat 17-Oct-15 17:26:04

No, Auntiflo, sadly the rug is long gone, more or less everything they left was destroyed by other family members when they took over the house after our grandparents died. But I remember them working on the rugs together, or my grandfather alone when Nana went for 'just a wee lie down' in the evenings! I remember this rug so clearly, I would lie on it with the cats! I also remember them making a half moon one for the fireplace, it was a very trendy one at the time, either late 50's or early 60's. Contemporary, was what my Mum would say.

mollie Sat 17-Oct-15 16:17:55

Adorable! His niece will love it! What's next?

grannyactivist Sat 17-Oct-15 15:49:16

I'd love to claim credit for this, but it was crocheted by my 23 year old son who is making a series of toys for his niece in NZ. My son learnt to crochet via youtube. smile

Elegran - just noticed the links to rectangular patterns, thank you. I missed it first time of reading (oops). Now I'm tempted but I just need to find a nice pattern for my size that isn't too chunky or I'll end up looking like a michelin man!

If anyone can find an online link to a simple pattern for a cardigan without any shaping please let me know... ta muchly smile
