6 kilometres! That's one way to look at it.

Ply can be very misleading when manufacturers really mean weight. I've seen Whirl described as both 2 ply and 4 ply. When I look I can see 6 fine strands plied together so technically it's 6 ply!

In weight, I'd say Whirl is closer to a fine sock yarn e.g. Lang Jawoll which you can buy from Loop Islington. It comes in a range of beautiful jewel colours see here www.loopknittingshop.com/p/3615/Lang-Jawoll-Sock-Yarn but Whirl is must softer to work with. It glides off the needles.

I've been browsing the Lost in Time projects on Ravelry. Inspiring colourways. Must crack on with RBTL and then decide what to do with the other 6km of Whirl I have!

No, I haven't done the Virus. I only came back to crochet last year, after decades! The shawl I'm doing now is Lost in Time. I'm on the penultimate colour change and hoping I have enough to finish the edging.

Bathsheba, I haven't knitted with it but I think it would make a lovely lacy garment on relatively large needles.

Oh, this is sounding a bit more promising. But then I do struggle with traditional 4 ply to be truthful.... It looks so gorgeous though! Perhaps I'll be tempted to try some for the long winter evenings.

Thank you. Combining the two - you work two rows of one then two rows of the other, it's gone from a turquoise-blue and yellow to a minty green and deep pink so far.

When you say star blanket do you mean a star-shaped blanket or star stitch?

Have you ever crocheted the virus shawl? I think the gradual colour changes in Whirl would work really well with that.

I've just been to look at this yarn. It is absolutely gorgeous, but..... 2 ply, oh my goodness . My arthritic fingers don't even like knitting with 4 ply, and I'm sure I would never, ever have the patience to knit with such a fine yarn - doesn't it take forever to finish anything?

I've used Melting Macaron to make a star blanket for a new grandchild and Blackcurrent Squeeze Me for a lace wrap for a friend.

I'm nearing the end of a shawl with Poppin Candy for myself. They're all crochet projects.
