How best to display embroidered pictures

I have framed a couple of embroideries in box frames. It’s not difficult.

I think hanging a number of small, framed ones in groups of 6 or more, can look really effective.

I enjoy creating textile pictures and cards. I use box frames for the ones with 3D embellishments and ordinary frames for flatter ones.
I sometimes come across frames with multiple window mounts, in charity shops. Sometimes they are 3 equal openings so I can frame 3 pictures on a theme. You could look for the frames that have mounts for grouping family photos, they tend to be smaller openings.

I frame my own embroidery and cross stitch work as Antonia describes. On the pieces where I've sewn in seed pearls, sequins or thicker textured thread, I use a box frame so that the item isn't squashed up against the glass. I also use a little soft padding at the back of the piece to give it dimension and shape.

If they are washable and large I'd like to see them with a slender wooden dowel threaded through top and bottom and cord on the upper dowel to hang it. I have two printed hangings displayed like this and like them very much. My room had a hard floor and the textile softens the appearance of the room.

Pinterest have some lovely ideas Franbern - I often 'adapt' ideas from their site. What about a deeper frame so that you don't flatten the texture?

If the embroideries are on canvas, and you want them in a frame, they should be framed by a specialist in needlework framing. You could try to do it yourself by cutting a piece of thin board, leaving a border of approximately an inch all round. Then you iron the embroidery on the wrong side and make sure it is completely dry. Lay it centrally over the board and turn it over, then sew each of the opposite sides together, to tighten the canvas. When it is taut all the way round you can put it in a picture frame.
