Inspired by all of the knitting ladies here

I’ve been reading this section for a while in lockdown. I’m new to gransnet. My daughter is having her first baby in the summer and after not knitting for over 38 years, I’m well on the way to knitting a baby blanket. Nothing fancy, just plain and Pearl, but I’m using different colours and squares so I’m amazed at how it’s looking. It’s given me real pleasure and something to focus on during lockdown. I start at 4pm, one eye on Midsomer Murders, and knit until I go to bed.
So all you ladies who talk about their stashes...you’ve all inspired me!

Wizened-have you tried starting with a knot that you take between 2 stitches and pulling to secure in the stuffing. Once features are finished take the thread in and out between stitches until again secured in the stuffing. Pull tight at the end and cut close to the knitting so, when released, the thread disappears inside. Not a complicated as it sounds and should be demonstrated on U tube

Thank you ladies for help with charities to send my baby hats to! smile

Thank you very much, Witzend very kind of you. I’ll have a look now, see if it’s simple enough for me!

Me too @Midgey, I’ve already posted off two parcels. Just busy with 2nd stash buster scarf now. They turn out very nicely.
There’s a very quick and simple free pattern for a little teddy on the website, but the photo doesn’t look very inspiring. I gave mine very slightly longer arms, legs and body, and added a scarf (securely stitched on) since otherwise there was no way of securing the facial stitches without it showing - or making it too easy for a small child to pick off.
So I started and finished at the neck, and the scarf covered the ‘evidence’ nicely.

On advice from another poster I followed the link -knitforpeace, seems such an amazing charity well worth knitting for!

@Luckylegs, I just found a ‘beginner’ snood pattern after a quick search on the LoveCrafts site.
Just go to Lovecrafts, click on patterns, and search for snood - there are probably a lot.

I have knitted a few baby hats and wish to send them to a charity - has anyone got an address, please.
Thank you!

As a virtual knitting beginner, could anyone possibly give me a simple pattern for a snood for me? I’ve got wool and needles and I fancy doing something very easy but I’d need some very simple instructions from some kind person?

I too have picked up knitting needles after so many years....baby knits for son now 40 years old. What a joy. When I look back I never had the time to indulge since, as two beautiful little girls arrived not long after and my career eventually resumed.

At the moment two scarves, hats, a snowman.....eeek and a snood. Enjoying keeping busy when sitting without guilt. Long may my knitting continue.

Hello and well done! I've just got the knitting bug again after a break of many years. Just finishing off a cardigan, and have two lots of wool waiting for a sweater and another cardigan. It keeps my hands and mind busy and I am really enjoying it.
The only drawback is that I get emails every day with new patterns and ideas for new projects and I am easily seduced; before I know it I've downloaded another pattern and ordered more wool!

Lilypops Sat 13-Feb-21 22:54:59

Gwyneth. Let us know how you get on , glad my advice helps. X

Gwyneth Sat 13-Feb-21 22:48:59

Lilypops thank you for your advice will definitely give that a try. ?

BladeAnnie Sat 13-Feb-21 22:43:20

Keep going - congratulations you will have a very well dressed baby smilethanks

Lilypops Sat 13-Feb-21 22:35:26

Hi Gwyneth , I have done these blankets in squares and I find just putting two at a time edges together and doing a simple double crochet along the edges through the two squares , repeat with another two until you have edged them all together, pick out one of the colours in the squares , it makes a nice raised edge , white always looks nice, Hope that’s clear to you. Good luck ,

Congratulations Forsythia I've started knitting again during this last lockdown, making socks - at least one of which has been thrown across the room with a few choice words! However, patience, patience, patience - I'm getting there. Bet your blanket looks fab.

Gwyneth Sat 13-Feb-21 12:53:42

I’ve also just started knitting a blanket in squares. Could anyone advise me on the best stitch to use when I start sewing it together please. Thanks
