I made this from scraps...

I made this on Tuesday as a distraction while fasting (5:2). Keeping busy is a great way to ignore hunger pangs! ? It's my first go at patchwork and quilting and I'm immensely proud of it! ??? I watched several YouTube tutorials on how to bind it. I have no idea how I'll use it and my dog might well have designs on it. He suffers from pica, a propensity to consume things that have no food value! He prefers underwear and teatowels but anything will do, at a pinch. He also likes to eat paper and cardboard, especially important letters. My next fasting day is tomorrow, so watch this space!

I had a go at the shoe warmers. Not very pretty but they work!

Oh! Sorry for using the 'C' word (above)! ?

Thanks Alexa, I've got quite a few oddments of green fabric including some with seasonal patterns so I might make a biggish wall hanging for Christmas. Looking them over, some of them are a bit sombre though....I might be forced to buy more cheerful fabric... ?

Vegansrock, I like your theme of triangles having fun, as Bob Ross might say.

I like the blend of various reds and red-patterns. I like that you have selected those particular patches for a reason.

allsortsofbags I got the art folder idea from a sewing magazine and the fabrics from a website called 'Always Knitting and Sewing'. (They have an amazing range of fabrics.) I modified the folder by substituting the recommended cardboard inserts for a double layer of OHP acetates so that the whole thing is washable in case of spilt drinks.

vegansrock that's brilliant! I've never undertaken anything so ambitious. You have to be so accurate with the joining and I'd get cross with it and probably abandon it if it went wrong.

Callistemon I recommend this book. It's got a lot of easy information to get you started on patchwork and quilting if you want to give it a try.

They are anything but tipsy, vegansrock, it's excellent.

Here is my latest quilt I’ve made several in lockdown. This is made out of scraps it’s called tipsy triangles.

That’s gorgeous - you should be very proud of that!

Jaxjacky Sun 07-Mar-21 19:41:52

How clever and how patient lizzypopbottle I hope you are suitably proud of yourself ??

lizziepopbottle
I'm hanging my head in shame.
When I bought my new sewing machine last year the very persuasive saleswoman encouraged me to buy one with a 'free' quilting attachment. The attachment is still unopened in its box.
I haven't been totally idle.
I think I'm nervous to try without going on a course.

Lovely sewing. The Art Folders such a great idea and I love the fabrics.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone ?

I am in awe Lizziepopbottle. I cannot sew for toffee. Or, as in your case, to avoid toffee.
Lovely colours.
Well done you.

My next project (for Tuesday) is shoe warmers. I keep my shoes and boots in an unheated porch and they get very cold in winter. I've bought some wheat grains and will draw round an insole as a template. Then I'll make shoe-shaped wheaty bags! ?

How lovely are these! For the original 'first go at quilting' and others to come, I reckon they'd look lovely framed on a wall (or unframed), basically as a piece of art. I just have to look at something like this to feel soothed when I think of the care and precision and concentration that went into making it. A really calming thing to do, I should imagine.

Just keep lovely stuff like this away from doggie dentures !

FarNorth Sat 06-Mar-21 13:57:06

Or separately, in different places around your home.

FarNorth Sat 06-Mar-21 13:55:15

Those are beautiful lizzy.
What about hanging the patchwork on the wall? A small collection of them could look good.

Hithere Sat 06-Mar-21 13:49:10

That is gorgeous
