Thought Esme s outfit was hideous this week
She must be hard to dress being so little and rather round but the patterns were all wrong imo

dolphindaisy Thu 16-Jun-22 07:30:01

I thought Sarah Pascoe engaged more with the contestants last night, maybe she's been reading some of the comments! I always find myself studying what Esme and Patrick are wearing, didn't like either of their outfits this week .

If only Cristian had picked the correct fabric, I’m sure he would have stayed in. I think he’s far more inventive than Brogan, all her garments look too alike for me, often wishy washy colours and frilly/lacy bits. The dress that won was gorgeous, stunning colour. And it was a good transformation this week, they all looked wearable for once.
Good to see Esme back on form with what she was wearing, she’s been very subdued the last few weeks.
Monica It’s maybe wishful thinking or false memory on my part that CW was excellent, it’s possibly just that I find SP to be so poor in this. I’ve seen her in Taskmaster and found her fairly funny.

I liked the red and yellow ones, and Christian's, but I did not like the white and pink ones. The white one looked like a wedding dress, and what Brogan thought she was doing making a pink dress, no colour could be less 1930s. It looked like a nightdress.

Grandmabatty Wed 15-Jun-22 22:45:30

Gorgeous dresses.

Deedaa Wed 15-Jun-22 22:15:01

I loved Joe but Sara just irritates me. Weren't the evening dresses stunning tonight ??

BlueBelle Wed 15-Jun-22 21:59:55

I m sorry I really dislike this presenters role she irritates me just as Joe Lycet irritated me if we have to have one and I don’t really see their role as necessary I preferred Claudia winklemsn although she’s far from my favourite person
Brogan had a bad w eek this week

Millie22 Wed 15-Jun-22 21:59:25

It was. I loved it.

Grandmabatty Wed 15-Jun-22 21:38:54

Man Yee's blouse was beautiful.

It's the quarter final!

The 1930's

I never watched the early series live, discovered the program rather late, but caught up on youtube. I agree M0nica although I wouldn't go so far as to say I loathed CW, but I did think she came across as disdainful at times. I do wonder if the instructions have changed as Sarah is far less 'involved' and 'engaged' with the contestants than previous presenters. You don't get the impression she's formed any sort of relationship with them as individuals. On the other hand maybe they'r just editing out any interactions she has.........

M0nica Sat 11-Jun-22 19:54:20

GDH I absolutely loathed her. I found she made her disdain for people who spent their time sewing as a hobby so evident that at times I came close to not watching the show, even though I enjoyed it, because I couldn't stand her presence.

Better 20 Sarah Pascoes, than one Claudia Winkelman.

grannydarkhair Sat 11-Jun-22 19:50:04

My favourite presenter of/for GBSB was Claudia Winkleman, I thought she was excellent during the first few series. Also liked Joe Lycett, I found him genuinely funny a lot of the time.

AreWeThereYet Sat 11-Jun-22 16:55:16

I did complain about Joe Lycett when he started. Hadn't heard of him, didn't know who he was and I found him very annoying and infantile. However, once he settled down and I got more used to him he did make me chuckle. I always thought he was good with the sewers too. Haven't seen that empathy and connection with the sewers yet from Sara Pascoe, but that may change. I feel a bit sorry for her and think she may be finding it a lot harder than she thought it would be. There are only so many (funny) jokes you can make about sewing.

M0nica Sat 11-Jun-22 16:11:49

I never complained about Jo Lycett. I liked him from Day 1.

But Jo Lycett interacted with the contestants. Sara Pascoe, seems to just do her entries, recite her script and then retire to her trailer. In fact I sometimes wonder whether they film her entries and scripts entirely separately from the rest of the show and just cut them in later.

Luckylegs Sat 11-Jun-22 11:58:22

I don’t think Sara Pascoe is the right person for the presenter but then I really didn’t like Joe Lycett on it either. I too wonder how difficult it is to find a good presenter, not necessarily a comedian, to do this job? It’s the same on Pottery Throwdown, I much preferred the substitute one who came on instead of Siobhan. Again, comedians?

Elizabeth27 Sat 11-Jun-22 11:50:02

You cannot blame Sara Pascoe for when she appears, that will be down to the director and editor.

Purplepixie Sat 11-Jun-22 11:47:03

A fabulous programme and I will be sad when it ends. I hope Brogan wins.

DanniRae Sat 11-Jun-22 08:41:31

I really enjoyed the latest episode and I too was sorry to see Gill go. I was so impressed with what she could achieve and was very touched by her 'farewell' speech. What an amazing lady!

I like Sara Pascoe and really don't see why so many people don't like her. Mind you I am sure people complained about Joe Lycett last year and now he is being praised! (BTW I liked him too)

M0nica Fri 10-Jun-22 18:39:09

I think this week's episode really took of in a way that other episodes havn't, this year, despite an engaging group of contestants.

I was in awe of the bra and pants people made, most so close to perfect. The transformation challenge actually produced some wearable clothes and none of the contestants had time to give their pyjamas a really good heavy iron to give them the crisp knife edge seams, you see on high end pyjamas in the shops or on characters in films, but again, they all looked very wearable.

I was very sorry to see Gill go, but her choice of fabrics in several recent episodes, has been uncertain, and this week her sewing was away with the fairies.

grannydarkhair Thu 09-Jun-22 22:47:25

Gill and Cristian have been sewing/renovating together.

grannydarkhair Thu 09-Jun-22 22:25:17

I also shed a few tears at Gill’s leaving speech, she was my favourite from the start and I’m sad to see her go but it was the right decision. I’ve been amazed each week at how she managed to sew so well.
I find Sara Pascoe gets more annoying each week, really don’t find her funny at all.

Millie22 Thu 09-Jun-22 19:28:09

Last night's programme was really emotional at the end. What an inspiration Gill was and I think she was finding it increasingly difficult to finish on time.

I quite liked the pyjamas Annie made. What a challenge to make a bra and my goodness they were so small. Far too fiddly to sew.

TillyTrotter Thu 09-Jun-22 14:29:20

I did similarly a while ago Grandmabatty and started an identical thread by genuine error.
I can’t remember what prog it was now.
I had my hand smacked too - so we can be in the naughty corner together ?

Casdon Thu 09-Jun-22 13:06:09

It was Man Yee’s pyjamas - I think they were more James Bond than old man to be fair, I really liked them, I thought they deserved to win garment of the week. I wasn’t keen on Debra’s jacket, probably because I don’t like bows on clothes except on the under 10s.
