Just heard about this project on TV.
Sounds like a great idea. It featured a man whose mother passed away leaving a two thirds completed large tapestry of a unicorn. The project paired him with a volunteer in the UK who finished it for him and he is thrilled as it feels he has a part of his Mum back.
When my SIL died 2 years ago aged 66 she left behind about 6 beautifully knitted cardigans and jumpers all in expensive yarns. She always put off sewing up items! Her daughters are not that way inclined so, to raise money for Breast Cancer UK, I invited a few knitting friends round and they bought them to finish off and wear.
Just before my Mum got really poorly we found a beautiful half finished Aran waistcoat still on the needles. She remembered one of her brothers buying the yarn and pattern for her when she went on holiday with them. We worked out it was 25 years old but Mum had packed it carefully in a sealed bag with lavender so it was lovely and fresh. I found a local lady who we paid to finish it for her and she was thrilled and wore it a lot.
I think this is a really worthwhile project and I may even volunteer myself.
