I just joined this forum to ask for some suggestions. I have a large white frame above my sofa and would like to update it by removing the metal scroll work. I welcome your ideas and thank you for them.

Turn it into a mirror.

I would replace the whole thing with either a mirror or a painting.

If you're looking for some colour, hang a piece of African print fabric

I would look for a rug or wall hanging to fill the space, or even buy a kit to make one.

Does it have sentimental reasons for you wanting to keep it

I like it, it looks retro. I would paint it a more vibrant colour. So it lives up the room.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It gives me some things to consider.

Livens not lives.

Without knowing the style and colours in the room or your subject preferences it is impossible to say what you would like.

How about peel and stick wallpaper in a pattern and colours that suit the room, cut it out and center it in the board.

A large cross-stitch behind it, or a pretty wall rug (or any rug), a crocheted blanket.
Photo collage of family.
Do a paint pour.
A mirror.

A white frame looks good. But is it realistic to remove the metal pattern without damaging the frame? If there are fasteners that can be removed, then it's not difficult. But there's a chance you'll have to completely disassemble the frame and reassemble it after removal. Previously, the frame could be easily disassembled without damaging the structure and without much effort. You could do this using pliers. And inside the frame, you could put an important family photo.

The Escape Road idea of framing an important family photo evokes sentimental value and appreciation for memories. No matter how the frame is designed, the photo that captures the memorable moment is what matters most.

I recently updated the wall above my sofa too, and ended up going with a classic painting reproduction. It made a big difference to the feel of the room. I was browsing around and stumbled on 1st Art Gallery—they have a lot of traditional options if you’re into that kind of look.
