The new series starts on Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm so I'm looking forward to some wonderful sewing again.

The new presenter Kiell is also back to replace Sara Pascoe.

BlueBelle and Monica - I guess it just shows that we can all have different senses of humour. I thought the three presenters dressed up in wigs and sunglasses as Anna Wintour was hilarious this week. I found Gloria Winkleman so annoying but I've liked the other "comedian presenters" they've had on.
I only really like the programme once they get down to about five or six sewers. I have to watch them all though as my non-sewing friends all seem want to discuss it with me. Usually I have a favourite but this time, I'm not really too bothered who wins.

I couldn't stand Claudia Winkelman either. In all honesty I think all the presenters have been fish out of water on the programme.

What is needed is just an ordinary presenter, with a little bit of knowledge about sewing and a sympathetic personality.

I suspect they use these 'headline name'choices because they think they will attract viewers.

Yes, perhaps just an ‘ordinary’ presenter, not a comedian.

Fern Britten presented a similar programme on Allotments, (it didn’t last long).

I’m not suggesting her, but why do they have to try and be funny?

Just chatty, empathetic and interested would do.

Everyone else in my family LOVES Claudia Winkelman but not me. All the other presenters have been ok but if I was getting stressed with my sewing the last thing I'd want is someone interrupting me and larking about!
I have enjoyed this series and will be sad that it is the final this week. I don't mind who wins.
Is Bake Off back soon I wonder? I like that too! smile

It's the final tonight but I'm not sure who I want to win.

Pascha for me! A classic seamstress, IMHO.

But, as has been said throughout, it depends on what the judges are looking for.

Luke has that amazing ability to create the metaphorical silk purses from sows' ears.
Flair, imagination and a touch of pzazz as well as skill.

Chardy Wed 24-Jul-24 21:03:07

It's just starting

I really like all 3

BlueBelle Wed 24-Jul-24 21:11:53

I like Claudia Winkleman I think she’s very professional and quite dry in her delivery however I really don’t see why they need the third person, same with Pottery showdown and the baking one (which I don’t watch) but the same tired format it’s such an unnecessary position
I don’t feel any affinity with any of the finalist so not really bothered who wins

Farmor15 Wed 24-Jul-24 21:59:32

Winner deserved it! No spoilers yet.

RosiesMaw2 Wed 24-Jul-24 22:01:37

A worthy winner - that final outfit could just as easily been worn by a woman couldn’t it?
But oh, how very “woke” - all those “they” and “them “
pronouns!

I'm afraid I'm just too set in my ways to be remotely "woke". Every time I hear they or their in relation to a singular person I have to look around to see who else is being referred to. hmm.

I appreciate they have to keep the programme fresh, but it doesn't seem to be much about the sewing any more. It is Sewing Bee - not Design Bee or Creative Bee.

Farmor15 Wed 24-Jul-24 22:14:31

Was Luke referred to as "they" in previous episodes? I only noticed it this week.

Chardy Wed 24-Jul-24 22:36:47

I thought this evening's final had a lovely atmosphere. Contestants, models, judges, Kiell, all seemed to enjoy it. The important three all seemed to get on really well, and were happy to congratulate the winner in a genuine way. Loved it.

me too!

Best person on the day won.

But overall, a rather dull series.

Deedaa Wed 24-Jul-24 22:59:00

I thought Luke would win, his made to measure was stunning. I did realise though that I hardly remembered any of the other contestants. There didn't seem to have been many "characters", the irritating lady with her home made bikini, the elderly gentleman, and of course Susie who went last week.

Nandalot Wed 24-Jul-24 23:03:29

Yes, Luke was they throughout.

Parsley3 Wed 24-Jul-24 23:04:18

This was a disappointing series. Perhaps really talented sewers are a dying species.

MiniMoon Wed 24-Jul-24 23:35:40

I love Sewing Bee and have enjoyed this series. I even got DH interested so much so that when he came home from work at 10pm he wouldn't let me tell him who won. He's going to watch it tomorrow.
I was pleased Luke won, his name to measure was fab.

I think they must be Parsley3.

Sadly we've lost most of those who made clothes out of necessity before the days of mass production and cheap overseas labour.

My Mother was an amazing needlewoman, I can sew a bit but I think my daughter may be hard pressed to put her hands on a needle and thread!

Purplepixie Thu 25-Jul-24 00:19:07

Fantastic that LUKE won. I am so chuffed to bits as he was by far the best of the bunch!

BlueBelle Thu 25-Jul-24 05:22:02

Thought I d watched it all but must have nodded off because I didn’t know who had won Yes Luke was obvious the right choice but a series to be forgotten I won’t brother to re watch

Freya5 Thu 25-Jul-24 07:51:35

So pleased Luke won, I clapped as it was announced. Just loved his humility, his hard work to improve, which to me is what its all about. His final piece was so much better made than either of the others.

M0nica Thu 25-Jul-24 12:06:09

Over the whole series Pascha was the best needlewo/man. But last night the best man won.

There are still needlewomen out there, both DD and DGD ar excellent needlewomen, but neither has any desire to sew under the time limits and spotlight that Sewing Bee entails.

M0nica Thu 25-Jul-24 12:09:06

I might add that if we want the younger generation sewing, then it is up to us to make it happen.

I am not a good needlewoman but introduced DD to it as a young age, making very simple dolls clothes. I also bought her a cloth kit doll and clothes that she made for herself.

It was exactly the same with DGD. We started on simple dolls clothes at 5, at 7 she made a simple elastic waisted skirt she could wear, and she has just goneon from there.
