The new series starts on Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm so I'm looking forward to some wonderful sewing again.

The new presenter Kiell is also back to replace Sara Pascoe.

I watched this week's programme last night and Luke's Diva outfit was very good. It's the sort of thing he would excel at.

Not really sure about Suzy. She has great ideas but that last pink coat thingy was unfinished.

Sparklefizz Fri 12-Jul-24 08:58:42

I thought the shape of Suzy's pink coat was great but the fabric choice was completely wrong. I know Patrick commented positively about the fabric but in my opinion the coat needed a stiffer fabric to help it form the shape.

Diva week clearly didn't suit Alex which is a shame as she is a much better sewer than Suzy. Suzy only carries on because, for once, someone else was worse than her.

Pascha and Luke definitely read the brief.

But still so many unfinished garments!

It was a great shame because Alex is far better technically than Suzy.
Suzy would have been the obvious choice to go if it had not been 'Diva Week' which just did not suit Alex at all.

Good episode this week and the right person left!

ixion Wed 17-Jul-24 22:17:18

At last!

grannydarkhair Wed 17-Jul-24 23:02:37

Still cheesed off that Alex had to leave last week and Suzy got through, it was absolutely the right decision to send her home tonight. I haven’t enjoyed this series very much, normally by the final there’s one sewer who I’d like to win but this year I really don’t care. Imo, it’s time for Sewing Bee to take a break for a couple of years (or more).

Grandmabatty Wed 17-Jul-24 23:08:55

grannydarkhair my aunt and I said the very same thing earlier. Normally I'm sad when it ends. This series I don't have the same sense of empathy with any of the contestants. The correct three are in the final but I'm not really rooting for anyone in particular.
Suzy has been on a shoogly peg for weeks!

Calendargirl Thu 18-Jul-24 06:58:28

Yes, Sewing Bee has seemed underwhelming this year.

But it’s been a welcome break from the football.

BlueBelle Thu 18-Jul-24 07:23:24

I haven’t enjoyed this last series and I haven’t got caught up with it and although the ‘comedian’ is I m sure a decent chap he’s about as funny as a wet weekend He’s totally unnecessary and a bit annoying and none of the sewers are making me in any way interested or excited
Shame I think it’s outlived it’s entertainment

M0nica Thu 18-Jul-24 07:46:50

Agree with all the above. Really underwhelming. Yes, the right decision last night, but who cares.

Is the BBC trying to end the series by boring viewers so much they stop watching?

ferry23 Thu 18-Jul-24 08:13:13

I do wish the BBC, or any programme maker, would realise that most viewers don 't have the attention span of a 3 year old. I was very happy watching the mix of sewers we had on the originals few series. Some were a bit "quirky" but it was easy, gentle viewing and you soon invested in the contestants.

But then they have to change it because they think we'll get bored with it. Like they did to Bake Off and Strictly. And add an unfunny "funny" presenter into the mix. Claudia was perfect - seamless presenting with a touch of tongue in cheek humour.

Both the people and the challenges getting weirder and more complicated by the week until we all get bored with people not finishing, having to make bizarre outfits that nobody in their right mind would ever wear and suchlike.

It's very disappointing when someone can reach the final four of a sewing competition and they have never sewn on a hook and eye in their life.

Beyond belief!

Purplepixie Thu 18-Jul-24 11:23:21

Come on LUKE!

Millie22 Thu 18-Jul-24 11:52:59

I too am quite disappointed with this series of Sewing Bee and it is one of my favourite programmes.

Suzy not knowing how to do a hook and eye fastening!

Esme must be thinking what?

I agree! I think the best sewers were in earlier series of the programme. This lot are really not that good. I do like LUKE though and hope he wins. His knowledge of making drag queen costumes has certainly stood him in good stead.

Visgir1 Thu 18-Jul-24 12:01:04

I too was astounded that she could sew on a Hook and eye, unbelievable I thought that didn't win any concession with Esme.
I still like the program, this is possibly the first series you obviously can't call it.

Parsley3 Thu 18-Jul-24 12:14:40

I am astonished that Patrick was a champion of Suzy this week. He said he was sorry to see her go. It must have been her collection of Suzy outfits that attracted him because they were so different but her tailoring skills were dire. I agree that the standard has fallen this year and I am getting tired of hearing Patrick trying to praise poor sewing and Esme just looking fed up.

Freya5 Thu 18-Jul-24 12:29:05

Luke is my favourite, fingers crossed.

Casdon Thu 18-Jul-24 12:41:20

I like Pascha best, she has a very good eye, and has made some very wearable clothes through the series.

Marmight Thu 18-Jul-24 13:24:18

I used to really look forward to this programme and agree that the not-funny presenter is excess to requirement. The humour makes me squirm and both Esme & Patrick seem uncomfortable with it. It all feels so choreographed. In the past there were some great characters and talented participants. This lot apart from Luke and a couple of others seem more than amateur. Even I can sew on a hook & eye 🙄. Originally they, particularly Patrick, were suitably serious and interesting. Time for a change (and the Beeb can include Strictly!).

twinnytwin Thu 18-Jul-24 14:10:11

Well Keill Smith-Bynoe is definitely my favourite presenter of Sewing Bee so far. I loved him in Ghosts and think he hits just the right spot with his humour.
I think the right three have made it to the final, although I was so suprised when Alex left as she's an excellent sewer. It was the correct call though. I really don't mind who wins as I think all of them are great.
I make all of my clothes and folk are always saying that I should be on Sewing Bee, but no way would I find the competition enjoyable. The stress would freak me out. It was interesting that Luke commented that he only entered for a bit of fun. He certainly is an extremely talented and creative person, as are the other two finalists.

If only Esme had a thought bubble above her head! I would love to know what she was thinking. Pretty much what you thought. Suzy had walked a tight line for a few weeks so her borrowed time was up for me.

BlueBelle Thu 18-Jul-24 18:12:22

Twinnytwin can you explain what is remotely funny about the supposed comedian lad probably a really nice person but funny is a huge jump I haven’t laughed not even a slight chuckle at anything he’s said
It all seems as if he’s reading it off a cue card
I’ve found all the participants very very mediocre at best and pretty awful at the worst making some not very wearable stuff

M0nica Thu 18-Jul-24 19:22:50

Totally agree Bluebelle
