Does anyone put a border on a C2C baby blanket?

Hi all

As the subject question asks. I have just finished a C2C baby blanket and want to know if anyone put a border around one. I just don’t know what stitch to use or how to go about it when going around the edges. Any advice would be welcome and thank you for reading.

Knitted or crocheted?

A border around a crocheted blanket can create a pleasant decorative effect but I am always mindful of not adding anything that baby can get delicate fingers caught in. I'm a fan of Edie Eckman's book Around the Corner - Crochet Borders.

With knitting, I'm not so keen as picking up the stitches along the edge can leave a hard ridge on the back of the work. On C2Cs I always put make increases and decreases a couple of stitches in which creates an even-edged border in the first place. I have a lot of books on knitted edges too.

Could you give some more information or post a picture of the edge you have at the moment?

Had to google C2C blanket! Didn't know it meant corner to corner, but the images that showed after Googling all seemed to show a border. I knitted a baby blanket (not C2C) in chunky yarn and put a crochet border around it. Whether blanket is knitted or crocheted, I think a crochet border works best and easy to do.

It’s a C2C crochet blanket.

Purplepixie I think it's beautiful as it is.

I also think it is beautiful as it is. The edges look neat. I think that adding a border would give it more structure so maybe it would pull back into shape better after a wash but I also think it looks like the kind of blanket that a toddler would love as a comforter that's going to be dragged around all over the place and tucked around favourite toys so the softer and more malleable the better.

I knit quite a few blankets and always do several rows of double crochet around the edges. It sort of finishes it off and makes it more likely to stay in shape when it's washed.

It does look lovely - well done Purplepixie! I think a border would look well on it - lots of ideas online. Could be simple trebles.

I've only knitted one pram blanket, it was knitted in individual squares and then they were all sewed together to make the blanket, and needed a border to keep the shape, I crochet the border, I sewed quilting to the underside of the blanket..

It depends on lots of things. I've just finished a DK C2C, and the edges were OK, but it looked better with a plain double crochet border on it. Had it been a finer yarn, I might have put a fancier border on it.

I am working on a knitted c2c at the moment, and it already has a border, and doesn't need one added.

I’ve just completed a double-sided knitted baby blanket, and added an I-cord edge around the sides. Not the Raffo had expected - I-cord only requires 3 stitches plus one stitch picked up along the side for each row.

I do the shell border, look on YouTube for c2c borders, it shows you wat to do and is very easy, hope this helps 🙂
