I was reminded last night of once feeling I had to drive a bit faster to get there before the petrol ran outā¦.
Was knitting the last bit of my hand puppet ādoctorā - front of the āscrubsā tunic - would have been a complete PITA if I had to order more, and then found it was from a slightly different dye lot.
But finished with a couple of yards to go, phew!

Finally finished all the sewing up and weaving in seemingly endless endsā¦
I love the little stethoscope. You are so skilled and generous.

And if you eat quickly you will put on less weight š¤£.
I know you are joking but if you are interested, the exact opposite is true. Eating more slowly allows your body to sense it is "full" and stop you eating more. Eating fast can cause overeating as your body does not get the "I'm full" signal quickly enough. I used to eat very quickly when younger especially when the family were younger as I was eating quickly then jumping up to prepare the next course or start the clearing away. Since living alone I have slowed down and I think it is one of the factors that has helped me lose a lot of weight.
Thanks, Chrissie7 - Iāll bear that in mind!
And that reminds me of how my MiL'se kettle had a very short cable, which meant the kettle had to sit on a rather inconvenient shelf. DH suggested getting a longer cable, but she refused, saying that the kettle used less electricity with its short cable. You have to humour some people.š
My comment was meant as a joke win. I am fully aware of the facts. About forty years ago I attended Weight Watchers and we were told that eating fast was a misconception held by some people. We were told to eat slowly and never eat standing up and if we did allow ourselves a Mars bar as a treat to eat it slowly savouring every mouthful and not quickly as if it were a terrible sin. There is moderation in all things.

Witzend - there is one method you can try another time. Keep knitting until you actually run out of yarn, then pull back/undo/frog (all mean the same thing) a row or two (or more if very narrow) and then knit it again. The yarn stretches a little as you knit and this can often be enough to make a difference. Works with crochet, too.
I know it sounds far fetched, but give it a go next time it happens.
Yes, it works (at least some of the time)!
I've done it with crochet.

Oh, thank you
I'll definitely try that!Scientifically you have to eat very slowly and chew your food many, many times, I believe something like 60 times for each mouthful, that way you feel full quicker apparently. We all know it takes 1/2 an hour to feel what you have eaten, hence never have a dessert or second helping before you have left it a while and know you really need/want one.
I've been out to lunch today and yes, we left it some time before we decided that yes, we all wanted pudding!

This reminds me of something my mother said years ago when I was a passenger in her car. I noticed that the .mileage was quite high - more than I expected and I commented on this. She replied " ah well, you must remember it's only a mini so the wheels are smaller and go round more often than on your car " ā We laughed a d laughed about this for years afterwards.

If you cut the food up, then the calories all leak out before they get to your mouth.
Witzend, I love it definitely better than housework!!!!

Here s/he is, just need to sew up and add eyes, mouth and stethoscope.
For the benefit of any children suffering āgingeristā taunts, I always give one of my profs. red/ginger hair.
What a lovely thing to do Witzend. Very useful for child therapists. Thank you!

Love this! Thought I was the only one! The driving faster in case the petrol ran out was me!
I always drove a bit slower if the petrol was low!
I work in a care home for adults with disabilities, some of the mind, some of the body and some both and one of our lady residents with mental disabilities is only 21 and she can knit an entire adult jumper and sew it all together in less than 24 hours!
I'm not a knitter at all, never have been or will be but I've watched her knit and the speed she goes and seldom makes any mistakes! She's absolutely brilliant! She told me as she suffers from what she calls 'brain troubles'' knitting helps her keep her mind focused. What a great lady she is!

You have to drive a bit slower so that the fuel doesn't run out; I had a long double journey to make on motorways during the fuel strike - a steady 50mph and I got home again - just!
I don't think it works with yarn though š§¶
Oh yes!! Gritting one's teeth always helps in both the running out of yarn and running out of petrol situation too.
I used to drive home faster before the petrol ran out - many years ago!
I hope you post pics of finished puppets before you send them all off Witzend.
I am sure I am not the only GN who looks forward to seeing your makes.
Good for you in your stand against 'gingerism'.
Thatās a great thing to do, and much needed.
