Knitting faster before the yarn runs outā€¦šŸ˜‰

I was reminded last night of once feeling I had to drive a bit faster to get there before the petrol ran out….

Was knitting the last bit of my hand puppet ā€˜doctor’ - front of the ā€˜scrubs’ tunic - would have been a complete PITA if I had to order more, and then found it was from a slightly different dye lot.

But finished with a couple of yards to go, phew!

That reminds me of slowing down when reading a good book, as I don't want it to finish.

It’s a bit of a letdown when you finish a really good book, isn’t it ?

Love this! Thought I was the only one! The driving faster in case the petrol ran out was me!

What are you making this time Witzend a knitted doctor?
It sounds intriguing. Who will be the lucky recipient?

Witzend you may have the answer to the shortage of doctors! Keep knitting. grin

Lol - this has made me feel less stupid!

That’s so funny Witzend. We were coming home yesterday and watching the fuel gauge. There was enough electric charge for 6 miles and we had 6.5 to go. So heating was turned off, OH drove sensibly for a change and we got home just before it flipped over to petrol.

It’s part of a set of ā€˜professionals’ hand puppets for Knit for Nowt - they go to children’s therapists.
A prof. in a suit, doctor, nurse, teacher, social worker, police officer, judge.
They are a bit of a fiddle, but very much needed. And in any case, infinitely preferable to doing housework!! That’s my excuse, anyway….

And if you eat quickly you will put on less weight 🤣.

Here s/he is, just need to sew up and add eyes, mouth and stethoscope.
For the benefit of any children suffering ā€˜gingerist’ taunts, I always give one of my profs. red/ginger hair.

That’s a great thing to do, and much needed.

I hope you post pics of finished puppets before you send them all off Witzend.

I am sure I am not the only GN who looks forward to seeing your makes.

Good for you in your stand against 'gingerism'.

I used to drive home faster before the petrol ran out - many years ago!

Retroladywriting Mon 07-Oct-24 18:38:56

Oh yes!! Gritting one's teeth always helps in both the running out of yarn and running out of petrol situation too.

You have to drive a bit slower so that the fuel doesn't run out; I had a long double journey to make on motorways during the fuel strike - a steady 50mph and I got home again - just!

I don't think it works with yarn though 🧶

I'll definitely try that!

I work in a care home for adults with disabilities, some of the mind, some of the body and some both and one of our lady residents with mental disabilities is only 21 and she can knit an entire adult jumper and sew it all together in less than 24 hours!

I'm not a knitter at all, never have been or will be but I've watched her knit and the speed she goes and seldom makes any mistakes! She's absolutely brilliant! She told me as she suffers from what she calls 'brain troubles'' knitting helps her keep her mind focused. What a great lady she is!

I always drove a bit slower if the petrol was low!

Scientifically you have to eat very slowly and chew your food many, many times, I believe something like 60 times for each mouthful, that way you feel full quicker apparently. We all know it takes 1/2 an hour to feel what you have eaten, hence never have a dessert or second helping before you have left it a while and know you really need/want one.

What a lovely thing to do Witzend. Very useful for child therapists. Thank you!

If you cut the food up, then the calories all leak out before they get to your mouth.

This reminds me of something my mother said years ago when I was a passenger in her car. I noticed that the .mileage was quite high - more than I expected and I commented on this. She replied " ah well, you must remember it's only a mini so the wheels are smaller and go round more often than on your car " ā— We laughed a d laughed about this for years afterwards.
