Any ideas what to do with these?

I sent off for these turquoise agate slices to use as pendants, but when they arrived they were too big and heavy, being about 6 cm across and too thick. Any of you wonderful crafters any idea what I could do with them? They came from abroad, so the cost of returning them would be prohibitive, but I hate to waste them?

At the moment I have them displayed on the mantlepiece, they are too heavy to hang on the tree! 🙂. I did like the idea of putting them in a tiny picture frame, might investigate that. You are all so inventive!

Big & chunky is all the rage now for necklaces. I bought one with 3 pieces about the 6cm size which looks fabulous against a contrasting sweater. Mine is made of some kind of resin, though, so probably lighter than yours. Yours are very lovely, so could simply be displayed on a shelf.

Any advice would be appreciated! What to do with 2 fur coats which belonged to my beloved mother in law. Have had them for
many years and couldn't part with them for sentimental reasons. Now the time has come but can't face putting them on a tip

Offer them to a local theatre group or school drama class.

If the agate slices are quite thick and you decide you'd like to incorporate them into a mosaic, you can buy 6mm thick tiles for breaking up. Or, you could use sea glass which has the advantage of being free!

The idea of mounting in cork tiles is an idea, but they are the thickness of at least three cork tiles. Also I think a paler background would show them off better? I am so grateful for all your lovely suggestions.

Amateur dramatic society or BBC Costume Department might have a use for fur coats.

I would use these to rest a bar of soap, bar shampoo or bar conditioner on, to prevent them going soggy x

KKKKATIE, Sorry, poster said it once, not twice! Now it’s me not reading posts properly, not just you! I am so sorry.

Can you stand them up somehow and put a tealight behind them.

How would that work? Poster has already said, twice, that they are too thick to see through!

If they were mine : I'd be very tempted to use them in a mosaic .
I plan to use up some nice broken crockery in that way only I shall be wearing goggles when I bash them !

Fur coats -we cut our old furs up and made some very successful soft toys .
Children love the feel of them .
Lots of Eastern Europeans live in my area and they think that the ban on furs is ridiculous and were my best customers raising money for charity .

Get two box frames, and frame them. Then, either hang them, or sell them at a profit.

Buy a square frame, cover board with fabric and glue in the center and hang it up… it’s beautiful!

I'd do this, probably on a felt background. To make coasters I'd mount in a double layer of cork tile with the top lay cut around the stone so it sits inside -assuming the cork tile is a similar thickness to the agate slices.

Leave them as they are, somewhere where they can be picked up, held and admired. They are very tactile

Definitely agree ..

They are very beautiful ..

We have amethyst stones ( they are huge rocks of raw unpolished ) on one of our coffee tables ..

Everyone that visits us, admires .. They are true eye catchers.

Put them on the table or tray when you serve your guests. They would be great for bijou conversation pieces .

Oh definitely .. I agree ..

Not sure if I'm posting correctly

You could ask the moderators if they'd move this to 'Ask a Gran' or a similar forum.

FWIW, I don't think that you could do anything with the coats that would be approved of these days. I'd just hang on to them and leave them for my heirs to sort out...

They sold these in B&M in the UK and I asked the assistant there what they were. I was told they were drink’s coasters. I bought some and although they look nice they weren’t exactly flat enough to safely place a glass or mug upon.

B9exchange : They are beautiful as they are. Pieces of historic stone. They are so tactile. Just put them on display so that visitors can see and hold them. My grandson collects stones and has one very similar, He refers to it as his lucky stone.

We use these in different colours as coasters. They are beautiful and everybody likes them.
