I still need to make an Apelet hand puppet before he’s posted off, but my Very Old Ted is enjoying his company in the meantime.

Oh, how lovely Witzend, he's very protective of Ted!
Another triumph.

When I saw the heading I thought you might be going to swing through the tree tops with DGC.

I love him!

Indigo8 Wed 05-Feb-25 13:03:51

He's adorable! I love his stripey jumper.

Old Ted looks very like my long time friend Teddy Growler*. I wonder if they could be related.

*Chad Valley circa 1950, he lost his growl many years ago.

My Ted dates from 1950, too - he was a first birthday present! My first very early memory is of being in the bath when a granny arrived with him.

Poor old Ted spent about 10 years languishing in a drawer, after our old dog (as a pup) chewed half his face off, but eventually the Teddy Hospital did a wonderful job.

I love the monkey!!
You are so, so talented, and I really enjoy seeing the things you make - plus, I love monkeys. smile

Squiffy Wed 05-Feb-25 15:56:16

Another triumph Witzend!

Beechnut Wed 05-Feb-25 15:58:02

He’s great Witzend.

Old Ted looks like my (1950’s) teddy too.

Farmor15 Wed 05-Feb-25 15:59:09

You're amazing, Witzend !

AGAA4 Wed 05-Feb-25 16:03:34

They look so cosy together. It would be good to see apelet when you have made him.

Grannybags Wed 05-Feb-25 16:07:58

Fabulous as usual!

NonGrannyMoll Wed 05-Feb-25 16:18:40

Delightful little critter! We're very fond of soft furry critters in this house (in fact, the cat sleeps with me). Would love to see Apelet when (s)he's done.
A side thread, maybe: How old is your teddy? Mine is 73 - he's seen a lot of things in his time.

rafichagran Wed 05-Feb-25 16:25:35

Ohave that teddy Granny Moll,I am 67 and my Fathrr bought this for me when I was a baby.

rafichagran Wed 05-Feb-25 16:26:58

I not O and misspelled Father.

DamaskRose Wed 05-Feb-25 16:32:45

Oh I love him! You’re so clever Witzend, you put so much character into your makes, that’s a gift. Your Old Ted could be friends with my Wee Teddy who is the same vintage.

crazyH Wed 05-Feb-25 16:50:45

Clever girl Witzend 👌

Witzend Wed 05-Feb-25 18:48:34

Thanks, everybody!
NonGrannyMoll, Ted is 75, exactly a year younger than me.
Your Ted still looks very furry - he’s aged well!

Allira Wed 05-Feb-25 20:44:23

My poor Teddy needs so much tlc that I couldn't post a photo of him

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 20:57:50

I don’t like monkeys in any shape or form but I do like your William Morris Strawberry Thief upholstered chair😃 and the little teddy is cute.

CanadianGran Wed 05-Feb-25 21:06:53

Witzend, they look very happy together! What a great job knitting; I can't be bothered with fiddly things.

I was also admiring the fabric on your chair. Did you purchase it as is, or was it custom upholstery?

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 05-Feb-25 21:18:03

Definitely a small ape with a large personality- well done Witzend.

It was inherited from the in-laws, CanadianGran, a very old one even then, it was then covered in (to us) boring blue Dralon, so eventually we had it jazzed up a bit.
Fabric is the William Morris ‘Strawberry Thief’.

You do realise, don't you, that if that monkey is going somewhere, you will need to promise Ted that you make another one, he may keep?

Witzend Sat 08-Feb-25 10:04:40

There’ll be another in the not too distant to keep him company, AuntieE, maybe not another ape just yet, though. I’ve also made elephants, teds, dogs and frogs - all worry-eaters.
