It's back!

Starting on Tuesday 15th July at 9 pm.

I'm glad Keill is back. May be the only one. I find him personable with the contestants and thoroughly professional.

Oh Joe Lynette was awful cringy Why oh why don’t they read reviews like these we are giving I do think it was much better when it started and the same goes for the pottery one which is now so predicable I could write it for them
Cue to say how wonderful said item is, cue to say best he’s ever seen, cue to cry 🙄
Let’s hope they have some good sewers on there and not just people who drape someone in a towel sewn to a camping tent

Kloppqueen Sun 06-Jul-25 15:08:42

I liked both Joe Lycett and Sara.

notgoneyet Sun 06-Jul-25 15:30:13

According to Google, it is Kiell Smith-Bynoe, as Sara 'departed the show after the birth of her second son'.

BBC has a pic of last year's presenter, but for episode one (July 15th) state:- The Great British Sewing Bee returns as 12 new sewers tackle shape with tie-front blouses, transform circle skirts, and use pleats in a dramatic Made-to-Measure challenge.

For 'presenter' they list Sara Pascoe, so we won't be watching much, as we both can't stand the woman, an irritating voice, patronising manner and to complete the unholy trinity, she's one of the least funny alleged comedians on the planet, about as amusing as root canal work without anaesthetic. (not just my opinion, similar comments on many F'book forums).

NB - for Miranda and others, it's NOT just about sewing skills, to get the viewing figures up, they try to broaden its appeal, hence the 'recycle' challenge, and a few 'jokes' on the way.

Jillsewing Sun 06-Jul-25 15:54:50

Me too

Annika22 Sun 06-Jul-25 16:19:37

I used to love it but can’t stand the idiotic so called comedians desperately trying to be amusing all the time. Why do they need to bring comedy into these programmes. Bake off is the same.

Jeannied Sun 06-Jul-25 16:27:36

I totally agree. I can't understand the woke stuff, but what else can you expect from the BBC? The first few series were the best with some really skilled sewers. Now it is getting ridiculous, making things out of wetsuits etc. Why can't they a have a feature of instruction for beginners? Inserting a zip,
understitching a facing, reading a pattern. It should be encouraging people to sew

Crissy1 Sun 06-Jul-25 16:32:41

I loved Joe Lycett, not so keen on Sarah Pascoe. However looking looking forward to the new series, I don't watch, tennis, football or rugby so really struggling to find anything worth watching at the moment.
Currently catching up on Clarkson's farm and Life in the Dale's but only a couple of episodes left of each.

I love some of the recycling ones. I think they're quite popular with younger viewers - on YouTube recently I saw a teenage girl making a dress from a load of vintage handkerchiefs that she bought in a charity shop for a few ££. It was a patchwork smock dress, with lots of different floral, striped and lacy designs - sounds a bit hideous but actually looked perfect for Summer. She spent quite a lot of time matching the designs and cut it on the bias so it was floaty and moved nicely.

As soon as a little niche programme becomes popular, they shift it over to BBC1 and it then comes under the "Entertainment" banner.

So apparently, all we peasants can't be trusted to watch a genteel, pleasant and instructive programme without feeling the need to be "entertained".

Baking, sewing, pottery....really, who needs to see Pru Leith dressed up as a drummer in a pop band or any other gimmicky nonsense to make them enjoy a baking programme?

Ilovedogs22 Sun 06-Jul-25 17:30:31

Oh I loved Joe Lycett but I could not stand either Sarah Pascoe or Claudia Winkleman.. I love Esme Young & think she is a fashion mavel, so cool & still punky. 😎

knspol Sun 06-Jul-25 17:37:11

I find the so called 'comedians' incredibly annoying. Why can't Esme and Patrick wander around the contestants a bit more and chat to them instead of having some wooden presenter?

Forestflame Sun 06-Jul-25 17:49:44

Thank you for letting us know @Millie22
This is one of my favourite programmes.

NannieChicken Sun 06-Jul-25 18:13:54

Yippee, I love sewing bee. I do find some of the presenters irritating but I will still watch it.smile

jusnoneed Sun 06-Jul-25 18:19:27

I agree MirandaIV. It was good for the first few series but gradually got lower and lower standards of workmanship and some annoying contestants and presenters.
Making stuff out of shower curtains/wetsuits etc. Why?

I stopped watching it a while back.

Cath9 Sun 06-Jul-25 20:41:08

Thanks for letting us know.
If I’m free I love watching the programme especially as I used to make the clothes for the family

Nellbell Sun 06-Jul-25 23:33:30

I can't stand Sarah Pascoe so record the series and fast forward when she's on. Same with Bake Off. Good point made by Jeannied. I missed the earlier series and when I found Sewing Bee I thought it was going to be sort of lessons/hints/tips on sewing. I'm gradually losing interest in the program. I think I only watch it now to get a dollop of Patrick who I'd let loose with my buttons any day.

Deedaa Sun 06-Jul-25 23:47:45

I loved Joe on it. He used to be really good with some of the stressed contestants. I don't think I'd want to watch an instructive programme for long, I just like seeing the ideas.

lizzypopbottle Sun 06-Jul-25 23:51:29

I'll be shot down in flames for this but I think Patrick Grant is absolutely wet... 😂😂😂😂

Kamj Tue 08-Jul-25 14:37:28

Stopped watching after Joe lysette, loved him presenting it as I did Claudia winkleman

eddiecat78 Tue 08-Jul-25 16:02:27

I've been in love with Patrick since reading his book "Less". I wish someone would commission him to make some serious documentaries on the subject

BlueBelle Tue 08-Jul-25 16:04:59

Lizziepopbottle you won’t get any flack from me I think he’s a wet lettuce I think he’s got a very bland personality

lizzypopbottle Thu 10-Jul-25 00:57:56

BlueBelle 👍

Crossstitchfan Thu 10-Jul-25 01:13:24

These posts show how unpopular Sara Pascoe is as a presenter. Not one post, but many.
That begs the question - why on earth is she still on the programme? Especially as it appears from the comments that people are switching off or fast-forwarding when she’s on. These people can’t all be wrong! She should go!
