Peter did so well with his fabulous dress last week and getting Garment of the Week.

This week he seemed not to be bothered about any of it ... as Chardy says, he seemed cavalier and ignored all advice.
We have seen this in previous series when sewers ignore the brief and do their own thing. It never ends well.

The judges didn't seem to like Peter and Esme was snippy with him.
Maybe he was too cocky off camera?

I do enjoy the show and am amazed by the skills and speed of these "amateur" sewers. I must hurry up and finish the pyjamas I began in February. 😂🤣😅

Although this is a competition, all the contestants' say they have learned so much just by being on the show. Peter obviously thought he knew it all.

When the judges talked to him during the 4.5 hours, he seemed cavalier ignored their advice and then messed up. But he got garment of the week last week! Don't irritate the judges!!

I must have missed that bit if he didn't measure the model. I did wonder why he had a big chunk of material at the back of the shorts.

I was very taken with Peter - until he said he'd never done any top-stitching. Surely that's a very basic sewing skill?

Right 2 went last night. Peter was silly not taking the free advice, shows his lack of experience. Shame as last weeks dress was amazing.

Well that was a surprise I wasn't thinking Peter would be one of the two leaving last night.

I liked him surely he deserved to stay.

I think his mistake was not measuring his model for the shorts.

He was encouraged by the judges to measure but he just shrugged it off.

And then they didn't fit the model - anywhere!

As an obsessive sewer I feel obliged to watch the programme as so many folk say "You should be on Sewing Bee" and want to discuss it. I generally wait until the later episodes once the good sewers are left in the competition, but I did watch this first episode and was really quite impressed. I was surprised that one person didn't know what a peplum is, and the selection of contestants is rather "woke" but I enjoyed it.

I hope my use of the word "sewer" hasn't confused anyone . I refuse to use sewist or seamstress. I've been a sewer for 70 years now.

Construction engineers always seem to do well on Bake Off too. They manage to create very complicated structures that don't collapse.

I thought that too, I’ve never seen sleeves so architectural before, and it was wearable. I hope his sewing skills don’t let him down, because I think he has more to offer.

I recently re-watched every past episode. The new series got off to a good start with some wonderfully ‘engineered’ creations.
I think Sara Pascoe is silly and Esme too old and the models appeared to have been chosen to represent every extreme of human available.
It’s always nice to see an unlikely contestant producing a well-made garment.

Maybe the toilet roll cover dress was a signal to the contestants that anything goes and they must forget any pretentions of style and taste, so long as they cover their stitches and have no mistakes on display.

I don’t sew but love watching the programme, I get interested in the contestants.

I totally agree, that dress was like an old style toilet roll cover. I was left wondering if Sara chose it for herself or was told she was wearing it.

I actually find it, the programme, quite inspiring. I used to make my DC clothes but have only recently started making things for myself again. I have a friend who's a semi retired dressmaking teacher who has helped me.

It's so empowering but can be expensive 😫

I think it was a good start to the series and I liked the Garment of the Week. It was certainly different.

The dress that Sara Pascoe was wearing reminded me of those old style toilet roll holders.

Love the programme although the only thing I have ever made was a sack style nightdress at school. It took me a whole term and I never wore it.
