How often do you try new things.

I love to make stuff, just about willing to try anything. At least once.
So, am I the only one? I like to try something new when life gets crazy. Life has been extremely crazy now for about 2 years. And I think we are about to have things calm down. (Knock on wood!) And now I am working on learning how to do beaded embroidery. I also am planning to add it to my silk embroidery and water colored fabric stuff. So far what I am doing I expect I will clip and return to the boxes just because it is practice and not something I want to keep forever.
So when do you choose to learn something new and what inspires you. My kid found a HUGH box of presorted beads And he got it for free and said I know you can do something with this Mom. I started looking on Youtube....
As long as it is portable...

I think that there is science to support the idea that learning something new is good for older brains.
I have returned to knitting after many years, and started Sudoku in lockdown, but my toughest assignment has been tackling a new language on Duolingo.
Maybe one day I will get the hang of it...

I enjoy trying out new things with fabric. I keep meaning to buy one of Jenny Raiment's books and experiment with different techniques. What to do with all these samples is the next thing. Sew them all together and make a wall-hanging perhaps?

Sounds like time to quilt something.

We are getting ready to embark on a small road trip. I always take lots of little things to do while out, but hubby's main thing has been whining about anything and everything.

So since he won't find things to take, I have started packing stuff just for him. His paints, so he won't whine about me spending time with mine, a metal detector, a few sticks to whittle, and a sign for him to post on the front of our van for chess game challenges, 2 new books and I am getting his ball games sent to his computer. I am hopeful.

My mind is always bursting with creative ideas .
The only thing that holds me back is lack of space .
I might have a studio built - finances allowing .

I'm envious of people who are good at craft type activities - as I'm useless at them. I'm the one known for drawing trees that looked like lollipops or being "obvious dunce of the class" when trying out an evening class in pottery one time. Can't dressmake. Can't knit. Oh well - someone has got to be useless at these things imo - to provide an appreciative audience for people who can do these things.

Does cooking count? Gotta be creative - and well I do need to eat. Now that I'm not bad at - thankfully. I have had to do a LOT of experimenting with that over the years - as I was brought up on a diet that was restricted even by 1950s standards. So ever since then = you name it and I'll probably try it re any foods I come across that I've not tried yet (provided it doesn't include meat - as I don't eat that). I'll try new foods...I'll try new recipes with "existing" foods. I'd say probably around 90% of what I eat daily is foods and/or recipes I tried out for myself in the first place and I have noticed other people asking me what something is or how to eat it if they don't know - so I must have picked up a noticeable amount of knowledge on that over the years. Absolute first thing I'm doing at any meal out is to see if there's anything I haven't tried yet or trying to work out new ways of eating "existing" foods.

I tried needlefelting recently and it was surprisingly easy. Much less complicated than it looks. I have absolutely no artistic ability, but you just follow the instructions and it works.

I am also learning a new language over the winter. And beyond, of course - I don't expect to get fluent in a couple of weeks grin.

I do try new things quite often. I like to have something to do most days in the winter, as they can drag otherwise. I am trying not to put the TV on before dark (which gets earlier every day, of course) as it's all too easy to become less selective about what to watch, and just put it on when it's cold and rainy outside.

The trouble with crafts is that I don't want a lot of the things you can make๐Ÿ˜‚. I knit jumpers, which is fine as we can wear them, but I don't want to fill the house with pasta collages or felted frogs grin. The odd Christmas decoration is one thing, but there is a limit. I do embroidery and cross stitch, but again, unless I want to be surrounded by stitched artwork (which I don't) there is always the question of what to do with the results.

Cariadagain .
There are times when I regard being creative a nuisance !
Today was another day when I had to force myself to tidy up !
I would rather have made some Christmas cards and jewellery.
It's why I really need a studio so that the rest of the house is tidy .
If I'm not making stuff then I'm writing books in my head.
I have memories of going on holiday with my grandmother and staying in very old fashioned hotels with a lot of ladies.
They thought that I was incredibly well behaved as I sat hour after hour listening to them chatting .
In reality I'd switched off and was making up stories or actually drawing them on imaginary paper with my toes !
