My daughter also asked me before she had her first child. I was quite happy to settle for gran or granny but the aforementioned first child decided that I was grana when he was about two and that is what all four who can talk call me and, no doubt, the fifth will follow suit later. (The other half of my screen name is because my grandchildren are all in New Zealand while I live in the UK – but not for much longer.)

My DG solved the problem of who was to be called Granny [neither grandmothers like Nan or Nanny] - I am Gaggy and the other is Granny - she started this at 2 years old. Her maternal grandfather is grandad and my ex who lives in Florida is Grandad America

I'm Granny or Gran just like my Mum was to her numerous grandchildren but as whenim64 said, it's those enthusiastic cuddles that matter really - not what you're called!

Never liked the Nan/Nanny idea ...too much like a goat! shock

What did your daughter call her grandmother?

I remember being so surprised, and delighted, at being asked by my Daughter-in-law what I'd like to be called so I opted for Grandma (as my mum was), as the Italian/French connection had already chosen. Anyway, as is often the case, it was our grandson who came up with his very own version. I am Mema. As he rarely speaks, it is very special.

Congratulations to all how wonderful a new baby to snuggle...
I've been Nan or Nanny to all my grandchildren but now the older ones are adults they tend to call me Grandma , as Ben (21) said to me, it has more 'gravitas' Nanny.. I had to smile at the thought he'd put into my new 'name'.

I went for Nana - because it is VERY easy to learn to say, and because my own Nana was special.

Aaah! Lovely to be given a choice, so go for what you like. I have been nana, nannie and nannie Carol to my lot over the years. I don't really mind what they call me - it's those strangulating cuddles round the neck and the beaming smiles when I walk in that tell me how I relate to my lovely grandchildren. Happy days sunshine
