Yup, agree with Elegran....so many supermarkets do perfectly acceptable fresh or even frozen party food.

To be honest most people have the good sense to appreciate a cheerful and unfrazzled hostess who offers tastefully plated bought in nibbles than some poor drudge who has spent the morning in the kitchen and is way past a bit of festive small talk. Fill the house with the smell of mulled wine, be generous in your cheerful welcome and if anyone has the bad manners to moan, they are not worth inviting! Have a great time.

I would buy ready made pastry case's and use all leftover's for mini quiches or make a large one and cut into small squares, any french sticks toasted slightly and topped with cream cheese and slithers of smoked salmon the easy peasy way is to buy from lidl/aldi from their chilled counter and top with stuffed olives,or as suggested buy ready done from M&S,Iceland do some nice platters which go down well with little ones easy chicken finger food will keep them amused.best of luck and don't fret about it everyone will be well topped up after Christmas and will only want to nibble.

A trip to M&S is the easiest menu I can think of.

DH (bless him) has suggested that we invite a few friends from the village in for a lunchtime drink on New Year's Eve. Bearing in mind that I will be exhausted from our family get-together on 28th and that DD2, her husband and 2 DGDs are staying until 30th, what can anyone suggest that is really, really easy?

We used to regularly have little parties like this a few years ago but one friend died, one family moved and two split up so the socialising fell by the wayside and we'd like to try to get it going again.
