This could be , as said earlier, that they want a candidate with legible writing (no chance for me), it would make it more difficult to use a CV writing service.

You could put a piece of lines paper under the sheet you are writing on to help keep it straight. Some letter writing pads used to come with those - possible Basildon Bond. Do you have a friend with beautiful handwriting? I had a friend who was always asked to do things for the PTA as her writing was so lovely. And it would serve them right if you flummoxed them by not being you IYSWIM.

Of course, using a lined sheet would be no use to you because you'd never see it through the parchment!

I think it probably because they need to know that they can understand whatever it is someone has written down for them, after all a receptionist often has to make notes of messages, and it is useless if the handwriting is illegible, which is the case with my grandson who is brilliant, but whose writing needs some attention. Always in too much of a hurry to get everything down.

Perhaps they think that it'll put off those not truly interested?
We never ask or accept CVs, the application form is very detailed.
Is this a 'green' stance?
Very curious!

Do you think they want it done with a feather quill and the envelope sealed with wax with the family crest on?

How strange. Maybe they want to know that the person has legible handwriting but it seems a bit extreme.

Afternoon all,

just been leafing through the local newspaper and saw a local company advertising for a reception/ admin role and asking for a handwritten CV!

I know that some companies ask for applications to be submitted by post, rather than via email, but I was a bit surprised by this one! I contacted them to check, and yes, they really DO mean the whole thing, not just a handwritten covering letter with a typed and printed CV shock

It does make me wonder if they are planning to use a graphologist to help them make their selection? I am left handed and not only does my writing slope backwards, but when using plain paper I couldn't produce a straight line if you paid me! grin

Any thoughts?

BTW, it's not an old fashioned business, rather bang up to date "green" engineering company.
