Thanks Agatha, you would be the same. I hope they do apply for a home carer - I called in today and found he's having another operation.
Diabetes is a dreadful disease. Poor P. (wife) isn't well either, and I think the family has gone to the hospital this pm. I took a cold meat salad meal round and left it on the table.
Fingers crossed he survives the operation.

How sad, any chance they would consider a home carer? The poor woman must be exhausted. It's lovely to hear you're such a helpful, caring neighbour

Yes that's a good idea, I'll offer. But she seems completely exhausted at the moment. She's about my age.
The hospital wanted him to go into a convalescent home for a few weeks, but he refused, wanted to be at home.
I'll try to pop in more often and try to cheer her up as well.

Maybe you could offer to ferry her backwards and forwards to the hospital to visit her husband, saving her the drive or freeing up family to concentrate on the farm.

How fit is his wife? Can you offer her lifts to the hospital? - or meals when she gets back?
