I get Hermes deliveries too and have never had a problem. We've just got a new person, so I don't know them very well yet, but the previous woman was lovely. I've used them myself a few times when it was cheaper than the PO/Royal Mail.
The only time Yodel was supposed to deliver a parcel to me, I was out (Sod's Law) and it went wrong. A card was left telling me the parcel was left with a neighbour up and over the road (not a near neighbour, but we do say hello, etc.). The problem was that the neighbour suffered from Alzheimer's. She's lovely and was able to stay alone in her own home because of the support she got from family, friends and neighbours (she's in a home now). So I went over to ask for the parcel and of course, she didn't remember anything about it. So I went home and later I went over again, but she still didn't remember anything or even that I'd been over before. At that point her next door neighbour came home from work and he keeps a close eye on her, so he went in to her house and had a look around, but there was no sign of the parcel, but he said he would keep an eye out for it.
At this point I decided it was up to Yodel to sort it out and rang them to explain what had happened. I was told it would take 48 hours to get back to me before a decision would be made about what to do next, because the driver would have to go back and check what address the parcel had been left at.
48 hours came and went with no news, but I was too busy to chase things up and then on night before bin day, the parcel was found safe and sound in the lady's bin when her neighbour was putting out both their bins.
I contacted Yodel to tell them what had happened and found out they'd not even been able to make contact with the driver. What happened with the parcel was unfortunate, but the customer service from Yodel was definitely lacking. Can't say I was impressed, but they probably pay low wages and don't have enough staff.
