What is a 'typical ' boy?

To my mind a typical boy is quite physical, on the go a lot, likes the odd playfight, enjoys football, running around and maybe riding his bike. My friends grandsons burst into the room, jump all over her and then start to fight each other.
My Grandson is 10 and he is very quiet. He is gentle and kind and has 3 friends who are slightly 'nerdy' but also enjoy football and are loud when they want to be. My Grandson likes computers, reading, and collects stationery, he has more than they have in WH Smith. Close friends and family are all beginning to say that he is gay. That dosn't matter a jot, but should we put labels on children quite so early? My Grand-daughters on the other hand are both tomboys, love to play football, climb and pretend to be super -heroes, but no-one has said that they might be gay. I feel sorry for my Grandson because people expect him to be different and don't seem to understand that he needs to be himself. Has anyone else had this with their own children or grandchildren?

interesting philosophical thought jings - can sin exist without a God?

IMHO as an unbeliever in any God I consider 'sin' to be an inflamatory term and usually inflamed by the powers that be of many religions. Surely the way to go is the do as you would be done by hegemony. just saying.

I absolutely hate the phrase 'boys will be boys' it seems to excuse poor behaviour just because they are a boy! I don't feel behaviour expectations should be any different to a girl and every child is different, supporting individuality, strengths and skills development whatever they maybe.... Makes a happy child and rounded adult ?

I won't! Why would I? CBA anyway.

soop Mon 22-Aug-16 18:01:56

lalaland...hmm I'm certain it isn't a sin. Although someone, somewhere, at sometime is bound to try to persuade me otherwise. wink

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 22-Aug-16 17:38:55

I don't think it's a good idea to get into what the bible does and doesn't say about homosexuality. Better brains than ours have been unable to come to any conclusion.

Shall we just let love conquer all things. smile

What if what the bible says about homosexuality is bullshit, obi? Plenty of people do think that. Surely you don't expect them to take any notice of something they think is bullshit? Would you?

merlotgran Mon 22-Aug-16 17:22:47

jingl grin You've forgotten one.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 22-Aug-16 17:04:20

The original post went out of the window long ago. That's ok. Threads wander.

Ana Mon 22-Aug-16 17:03:45

jingl, you are wicked! grin

obieone Mon 22-Aug-16 17:02:10

The Bible has the Old Testament[which has things like wearing linen and wool, and eye for an eye] and The New Testament. The New Testament susperceded the Old Testament about 200o years ago! Most people know this.
Masturbation as far as I know is not a sin in either.
Anything else to do with Bible things can be discussed in a different thread if someone wanted to start one.
I dont think it is fair to the OP going as far off topic.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 22-Aug-16 16:50:50

Now, what made me think of them?! Oh yes.

Pugnacious.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 22-Aug-16 16:49:42

I sometimes wonder what other posters, the ones we hear nothing of these days, think on some subjects. What did happen to Alea and Gracesmum?

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 22-Aug-16 16:27:13

Oh yes! It was Daphnebroon's post!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 22-Aug-16 16:26:06

What has brought the word "pugnacious" to my mind? confused

LumpySpacedPrincess Mon 22-Aug-16 16:21:23

Nope, when I said my lettuce was green that was a statement of fact, if I had eaten red lettuce then that statement would have been true. Homesexuality is not a sin, fact. As DaphneBoon quite rightly says we are quite comfortable leaving some things the bible says behind yet cling to the ones that support our prejudice. I don't see many preachers condemning people for wearing linen and wool, even though the bible says so.

TriciaF Mon 22-Aug-16 16:14:42

There are some who are born with mixed genders.
I remember in my working days there was one poor lad who was born without a penis, just a hole in his stomach to pee. And I know personally a family whose first son had a variation of this condition. There are other versions, which often lead to 'camp' behaviour.
It takes all sorts, and I sometimes think that G-d had his tongue in his cheek when he gave animals, including humans, the sex drive. He knew it would cause trouble!

DaphneBroon Mon 22-Aug-16 15:45:28

Yes as you say, obieone there was lengthy discussion about sin, the Bible, Old Testament attitudes etc with Soontobe, but just as the world has moved on and we (in the West at any rate) no longer stone women "taken in adultery", regard homosexuality as a crime punishable by death, advocate an eye for an eye, regard masturbation as a capital offence, or believe in Creationism, attitudes move on with knowledge. Fundamentalism belongs in the realms of ISIS not our enlightened society.
That is not fashion that is civilisation that is progress

NanaandGrampy Mon 22-Aug-16 15:44:04

I don't have any problem with homosexuality Lumpy but I also reserve the right to not be dictated to about what is right and wrong....for instance I like red lettuce but you like green...does that mean I can only have green lettuce going forward.

No...it means I can make up my own mind so you making a flat statement that its not a sin should really be prefaced by ...in your opinion. Don't you think?

Bellanonna Mon 22-Aug-16 15:39:17

Yes, obione I'm sure this thread has gone further than the OP anticipated.

obieone Mon 22-Aug-16 15:37:20

The Bible says it is a sin. I dont intend to go into a long debate or discussion about it, as it has been discussed on here about a year ago.

Thanks NanaandGrampy. I was a bit wary of saying it on here, as I didnt see GandTea's original post that got deleted, and there are now so many deletes on this thread[I feel sorry for Oldgoose by the way, as I wouldn't have thought that this is the way she wanted the thread to go at all]that I cant work out what is allowed on gransnet about all of this.

LumpySpacedPrincess Mon 22-Aug-16 15:31:19

Not queen, though I do look good in a crown. But, homosexuality is not a sin, it's completely natural and normal, that's just stating a fact, like, the lettuce I had today was green.

NanaandGrampy Mon 22-Aug-16 15:28:53

yes you are allowed to say Obie you can make up your own mind. Lumpy hasn't been made Queen yet smile

LumpySpacedPrincess Mon 22-Aug-16 15:27:59

then, not the.

LumpySpacedPrincess Mon 22-Aug-16 15:27:34

obieone the you think homosexuality is a sin?
