Late birthday greetings.

I would also use the former. However, that does not explain why we say "Belated Birthday Greetings" !

On the thread entitle 'Birthday', the OP was complaining about her birthday not being acknowledge and lots of people have added their congratulations to the thread.

Some people have said, 'Belated Happy Birthday' or some such and others have put 'Happy Belated Birthday'!

Which is correct? The former would be my choice as the birthday isn't late - just the greetings - but, am I wrong?
