Working and planing adventures rather than just settling for retirement smile

Well, I've just learnt a new word!

Menopaws Wed 26-Apr-17 10:03:15

Anya is that a fart or a queef!

Bellanonna Wed 26-Apr-17 09:58:11

I find that works !?

Be positive, smile and enjoy the small things that make you happy. A cheerful older person is more approachable to the younger generation than a grump so that creates shared conversations and activities. You don't have to a supergran to get their attention just be nice and happy.

Not being a grumpy old fart.

What does being young in heart and mind mean?

MargaretX Tue 25-Apr-17 16:39:59

I have dear friend who is 95 and you never have the feeling you need to explain something modern. She is always up to date and I try to be the same. Its nice to have younger friends, that helps.

How about embracing a possible visit from family and looking on it with pleasure?

I think doing some work helps, whether paid or volountary, not necessarly full time, but doing useful things for other people.

Being interested in things. There is always so much to learn and some people just aren't interested at all!

My DH, AC, GC, GGC, laughing often, happy attitude, plenty of sleep, lots of sex, remaining fit.

"Always look on the bright side of life, tee tum, tee tum, tee tum....." I think that one "secret" is to be with positive people, (as much as possible) and to avoid the company of people who "drag you down".

I have never felt especially 'young at heart' or 'old'.I have just enjoyed my life, the experiences i have been fortunate to have, and the people in it.

I do cherish the speeches my father made at both of our sons' 18th birthday party 'why should we fear the future when it has young people like you [looking round at the gathered friends] in it?'

I agree with so many of these comments. It's best not to become embittered at some of the bad stuff that life will inevitably throw at you.
Despite being widowed I still enjoy hearing love songs on the radio. when I see a young couple I think of that lovely song from The King and I, "Hello Young Lovers" which was sung by the widowed heroine of the story, "don't cry because I'm alone, all of my memories are happy tonight, I've had a love of my own."
I've got lots of good memories and I try to be open and friendly to others though I'm not looking for a new partner. We were all young once and I enjoy the quieter pleasures of life, such as a sunny day, a new flower opening in the garden, a rattling good book and the occasional concert.

Thank you Sufjansgranny. I've copied down that Edith Wharton quotation. Very profound indeed and so......stimulating.

Be curious about the world and retain an interest in all that is going on. Move with the times and don't get stuck in the past. Always have something to look forward to, no matter how small. Try not to keep grumbling about everything but have a positive attitude.
I'm nearly 80 but friends say I am young at heart. I do hope so.

Sense of humour to able to laugh a lot especially at myself. Reading and writing about something that interests you and be positive about life. The greatest gift is freedom to do and say what you want to. Unlike some countries. Who don't have that freedom. To love and be loved and make the most of every day, whether exercising, reading, or just chilling.

My aunt, now 93, is still young at heart. She makes an effort with her appearamce, as she did as a young woman. She is actively interested in current affairs, uses modern technology, enjoys socialising and meeting new people, plays a lot of cards and scrabble.

Growing older "disgracefully" mine would say about me. OK I'm pretty eccentric however I like it so there you go. My 2 closest friends are like me too smile the girls just wanna have fun and we do. We know gow to enjoy our loves do girly things etc. None of us drink however we have crazy nights out where people ask what we drinking not believing us when we say water. Just be yourself and enjoy life

Being curious, knowing there is so much more to know and learn, liking other people, doing as much as you can. Reflecting, thinking, asking 'what if...?'
Ditching routines, trying different things/ways to do things, meeting new people. Not caring too much about others opinions of you!!
