Two friends in the US have separately sent emails to ask what's going on .... I have no idea!

There's nothing on the BBC website but Nick Robinson made an oblique reference to it a few minutes ago - I assume it's Fake News?

I agree with N&G and Jalima. The D of E has supported the Queen for so many years he deserves some time to himself. It's not all beer and skittles as the anti royalists would have us believe. Being constantly on show and having to turn up at events which must bore him witless at times all this well into his 90s its time to let the younger Royals take the strain.
I remember Girl comic Fairydoll and Prince Philip was a very dashing young man.

Maybe he just doesn't want to talk to that bloody woman May again. It gives him a way out of the opening of parliament.
He probably told his wife so last night after she had seen May.

Good on him! I wouldn't want to do the Royals "job" for any amount of money. I'm quite happy being a commoner. ?

TriciaF Thu 04-May-17 18:16:12

dj grin I think you could be right!
And I don't blame him - how much should a man take?

Anniebach Thu 04-May-17 18:19:57

It could be now doesn't have to encounter Corbyn, it must be difficult coming face to face with a man who supported the killers of his uncle

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 18:22:36

Not many of us would have to do that in the course of our duties, would we Anniebach, thank goodness.

Anniebach Thu 04-May-17 18:40:53

True Jalima, and an uncle who became a surrogate father , it would be so hard to forgive

Charles will be 70 next year. Don't think he needs to keep working to top up his pension!

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 19:39:26

Good for him. Hope he enjoys his remaining time. As for May, love her and I'm sure the Queen does too.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:01:00

I'm not sure if the Queen loves 'strong women' - although she is a strong, stoic and stalwart woman herself. But then we only have one previous female PM so perhaps that is not enough to judge.

I think she got on very well with some PMs - especially Wilson! although some she did not like others so much, especially Blair or Heath.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:01:58

iyswim as I changed what I was posting part way through blush

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 20:08:22

I can't see any reason why she wouldn't like a strong woman :/

merlotgran Thu 04-May-17 20:13:24

I'm sure they get on very well. So long as TM remembers who's Queen.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:14:13

I think that may have been maggie's problem grin towards the end of her reign anyway

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 20:15:24

Pistols at dawn even over who wears the best shoes grin

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:16:37

we know who'll win that!!!

Very envious of TM's shoes, I wish I could wear similar ones!!

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:17:20

Even HM would turn her nose up at mine!

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 20:21:20

grin mine too Jalima. I've never known how to wear "shoes" well. I go from boots in the winter to open toed in the summer.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:23:47

I go from winter laceups to summer laceups saak sad

Although I do have some sandals for when I don't intend to walk
and some MJ's for traversing from car to wherever I intend to sit down.

I want some kitten-heeled leopard print very expensive Jimmy Choos or whatever make.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:24:54

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:25:39

but the wine was very nice

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 20:38:42

grin good for you Jalima!

Got a funny story for you -

Mate of mine does wardrobes for the well "heeled" (pardon the pun) I was going on a date and she offered her help.

Well!
She stuck me in some outfit I found it hard to breath in.
Put "smokey" eyes on me ( I looked like I'd gone a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson)
Then came the Jimmy Choo's!

I ran home, redressed, washed my face, stuck on a bit of mascara and lippy, and was ready!

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 20:42:05

I saw a newly married woman on tv this morning who had bought Jimmy Choo's - they practically fell to bits after one wearing! She and her MIL were trying to get the £400 back. I think she succeeded in getting a credit voucher from the shop.

I only do mascara and lippy as well, have tried the eye pencil but DH wondered if I was not feeling very well.

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 20:50:53

It's a "brand" branding doesn't really have much to do with quality unfortunately. People are just silly enough to go with it grin
