I gave up buying fresh garlic when I discovered Waitrose frozen chopped garlic

Another vote for the Ikea one from me. It holds quite large cloves and comes apart for washing up.

I love my OXO Good Grips garlic press. Efficient, and very easy to clean. I've recently bought their cherry stoner and am really pleased with it too.

Not only lazy garlic but also lazy chill and lazy ginger.

After too many grated fingertips, smelly boards and hands, I now buy grated or minced garlic in small jars from the Indian/Curry section in the supermarket. Keep it in the fridge.

We were at a food festival last weekend and were taken with a demonstration of the little ceramic dish with 'teeth' and a little brush (see www.rupi1980.com, made in Spain. The demonstrator made it sound very appealing and said you get a much finer paste than with a crusher. You don't use the end bit (he said that is the bit that gives you indigestion!) and end up having to use far less garlic. It can also be used for ginger, nutmeg, hard cheese & chocolate. Gullibly we bought three - one for us and each of the children but have yet to try it. Perhaps tonight's the night! Am thinking fingers will be pungent though!

Don't bother with a garlic crusher; they are fidley, and difficult to clean. I grate garlic straight into the dish, using a grater with medium sized holes, not a box grater, but one with a long handle.

Pampered chef have stopped selling by agents. I don't know if they are online. I have a few things which are excellent.

Another vote for Pampered Chef one- excellent & gets used almost daily in this house. Had it for years.

Just like you I have bought many over the years but the best by a long shot is the cheapest I've ever bought from IKEA. So easy to use and more important so easy to clean.

anyone watched james martin crush garlic? he uses the first saucepan he can find and bashes the garlic! it works and doesn't need garlic crushers.

They are usually rubbish. Buy a small micro plane and keep it just for your garlic, works a treat and is quicker-just watch out for your fingers!!

I gave up on garlic crushers and just use a microplane grater now. Much quicker and easier. I use it for garlic, ginger and also cheese, because it makes a little bit of cheese look like a lot and it goes a long way!

We have the "Oxo" one and can recommend it. Available from Lakeland and other kitchen shops. It does the job and can be washed in the dishwasher. (The Oxo range of kitchen tools have comfy handles and are designed to be easy to use - we have several different ones.)

Bash mine with a rolling pin skin comes off and easier to chop...will use sea salt as was suggested...love garlic

I bought one from Marks and Spensers about 10 years ago and it's still going strong. I have also recently taken to using "Lazy Garlic" which is already finely chopped and in oil in a jar. Correct name is "Very Lazy Chopped Garlic" I got it from Tesco and it does save time and keeps really well.

Pampered Chef one without a doubt-have had mine for over 7 years and it's still working perfectly.

I had the same one as Greyduster, ended up sending it to the charity shop, I just use the one that your press now.

I have had lots that have broken supposedly doing the job they were designed for. My DS in France has an excellent one, a very simple design it slots together and does it's job perfectly. I may adopt it!

I bought yet another one in Leekes about 18 months ago it's the best I've ever managed to find, the make is Zyliss.
