What world are you living in? Historically, when Blair turned the Labour Party into New Labour that is when they tried to end the Labour Party. It appeared to be finish - but obviously not. It's members have said what they want.

Now New Labour will have to go away and join New (or old) Conservatives and create another party - just a you do when you, without exception, join up with the Conservatives on here AB. My guess is that it will then appeal even more to the over 70s and slowly die out.

Theresa May cannot ad lib - it has to be scripted. Nicola Sturgeon says, in a one to one meeting, there are no pleasantries, no small talk, she pointedly ignores any sympathetic enquiries - just straight into the script which she reads from.
She preferred Cameron's welcoming manner and warmth.

Big difference in being heckled in the past and now in times of terrorism have someone rush up to you . I have heard great responses from female politicians, Babara Castle was great at dealing with hecklers, she never had to deal with terrorism though.

Watch some old speech clips when there were hecklers and people responded with wit and humour. It can be done.

I think most of us did feel for her during the speech, but no Prime Minister wants the country to feel sorry for them, they want to country to trust them and maybe admire them.
Us feeling sorry for her must be the last thing she wants.

There are other theories about Mays position
One being that she is in the clutches of the loons who have everything to gain from crashing out of the EU, who are trying to get her away from the influence of the more moderate wing of her party by supporting her and propping her up -look at the way Gove has rushed to her support.

It is definately an enormous battle of wills as the loons know that they are loosing the argument which of course means the moderate wing have their tails up.

The catastrophe I think is that most of the Tory Party lack the integrity to put the country before self interest.

True lemon, I am a Labour Party member I am not a Momentum - Corbyn devotee, I believe they want to destroy the Labour Party and are well on the way to doing so, much to the delight of the far left.

I will never vote Tory, I admire Mrs May and the cruel posts of her daring to speak publicly that she and her husband couldn't have children has sickened me . She is criticised for being so reserved, she opens up some emotions and is mocked by Corbynites, shame on them .

This nastiness has only started since Corbyn became leader, the bullying, threatening emails, threatening any MP who does not agree with Corbyn with deselection.

I have attended so many party conferences over the last fifty years, was present when Mandela joined us, when Stephen Lawrence's dad asked for help, when .kinnock spoke the truth about the militants , it's on uTube. I know my village of Aberfan was made to pay to have the tips removed because union bosses didn't want the NCB and the Labour Party at war. And was there when Blair said a labour government would give the money back to the village so the graves would have care after parents were dead.

It SHOULD concern all those who are interested in the way the UK is governed...every single one of us!

The Labour party is in disarray. It has been divided and the situation has split the party. The voices of moderate members have been drowned out. Annie is not alone in feeling disenfranchised and concerned.

It does not mean she has switched allegiance. I think it illustrates to all of us the way in which a huge swing to the far left has left so many Labour voters perturbed and wanting a party dominated by working class concerns not the liberal middle classes who are pushing their own revolutionary agenda from their Islington or Tuscan strongholds or offices in academia's ivory towers. They have recruited the young, fervent and unthinking with promises they can not deliver. It's quite criminal imo.

That is not a Labour party many of us recognise, one which I and my family, from impoverished working class roots, supported.

Well day6 if you had read my post properly you would see I clearly did say I felt sorry for Theresa May during and after her speech.
I was merely pointing out that her coughing fits came AFTER the P45 prank so could be considered a nervous reaction.
A horrible position to be in during a high profile speech and very unlucky.
However, I could list many, many things that she has done that could be criticised (lies, promises not kept, bribing DUP, calling an ill-judged election which cost the country millions) and she is a very weak PM.
She is too weak to command the respect of the EU over Brexit negotiations.
