This is my first 'ask a gran'. Does anyone out there use Oriflame cosmetics? My Kleeneze (gone into administration) lady is now with Oriflame. I have been using Liz Earle products for some years and would never change from her skin care. However, I don't find all her cosmetics quite so good, especially the mascara, so I was wondering about giving the Oriflame mascara a go. Maybe the lipsticks too.

Oriflamme used to be the ultimate party plan Make up and cosmetics company, high pressure sales with a gift for the 'Hostess' and the workers having to earn their sample kit by a pecentage deducted from any commission made on sales, which was around 25%. by the time the Rep had factored in their travel costs, postage, and stationary deductions, it was difficult to make a living out of it, and most people gave up and found a better income elsewhere. Its a Swedish based company, no testing on Animals, but one Blusher they produced contained copper, which could give a nasty allergic reaction in some people. I worked for them for a short time in the early 1980s, but gave up due to the poor pay rewards achieved each month.

And a comment by a distributor -
After 20 years as an independant distributor I finally said goodbye to this company after years of being in the bubble many are in who are still distributors. I had success because I worked every hour possible with excitement because I saw the potential. Sadly the company has been going down hill ever since 2001 and they have had several new owners whilst trying to get things growing again meanwhile keeping the hard working loyal distributors in the dark and feeding them endless hype about this being an amazing opportunity and the best "Network". The final straw which made many give up happened at the end of last May when they were shut out of the warehouse due to unpaid bills. They have limped along since then - unable to fulfill orders for months so the distributors lost their income. They are now "better together" and predicting growth for the next 5 years going into the companys centenary. They do not even own their new wharehouse.....they got it as part of a deal with the council in return for providing jobs. The "leaders" are only recruiting to protect their income and do not care who they "get" to keep things going. Please do not waste your time and energy.
Pros None
Cons It's all a con now.....they are unable to fulfill their promises.

Bluebelle This gives an inside view of the demise of Betterwear, which was under the same owner as Kleeneze and folded at a couple of weeks after them.

Opened this thread expecting it to be about gas boilers or somesuch grin sorry, not helpful, I will go away now!

OldMeg Mon 11-Jun-18 07:17:10

Apparently they don’t test their products on animals. That’s a bonus.

NfkDumpling Mon 11-Jun-18 06:50:01

Why do I have a banner across the top of this page “Make Up Tips for Old Ladies”? What Old Lady? Where? grin

PamelaJ1 Mon 11-Jun-18 06:43:28

I used to work for them once. For a very short time.
I wasn’t a saleswoman!
I haven’t heard of them for years but yesterday, at our local car boot, there was a tube of hand cream. Just after I’d been on GN!
Is GN sooo powerful??

NfkDumpling Mon 11-Jun-18 06:04:22

Oriflame has a very pretty website. Perhaps its just gone on line.

Acciaccatura Sun 10-Jun-18 09:15:31

Mawbroon, you are a woman after my own heart....suspicious and cynical ? No, I've nothing whatsoever to do with Oriflame. Never heard of it before. That's why I asked the question really.

I remember oriflame from years ago. I had never then, nor since, had any allergic reaction to cosmetics but had a bad reaction with oriflame. . Thought it had gone out of business.

BlueBelle Sun 10-Jun-18 09:07:07

The note I got through the door from Kleeneze was a bit cryptic It said they had gone into administration before the present owners could do any more harm than they had already done It also said it couldn’t honour any outstanding orders
I ve only bought off them once a long time ago but they kept putting the catalogues through my door

Cherrytree59 Sun 10-Jun-18 08:37:01

Maw agree that may be the case
However in this occasion the brush I am using instead of the mascara own brush fits in to the tube and and applies imho my mascara much better than the brush that was part of supermarket brand.

No I don't believe that it is a 'sneaky ad' for Oriflame and as although Accaiccatura states its her first time asking a gran
She has posted on other threads.

NfkDumpling Sun 10-Jun-18 07:59:35

Yes.

and

No!

I too hardy ever wear full make up. Mostly just moisturiser. It annoys me that there’s so much packaging and so little content with make up.

Baggs Sun 10-Jun-18 07:33:34

Off piste question, but genuine:

do mascara brushes get thrown away with each empty tube of mascara?

Are the tubes and the brushes recycled? #PlasticWaste

I looked at this post because I had no idea what Oriflame is. I just buy the make-up by the brands that I like (and don't test on animals) and seem to suit me. It takes me less than 10 minutes to do the full Monty on special occasions – unless I stab one or both eyes with the mascara wand and then it's right back to basics

NfkDumpling Sun 10-Jun-18 05:50:29

A banner at the top of the Kleeneze site says they went into administration on 12 April. I got my catalogue last month though so I assume they’re trading as normal. Avon and L’Oreal both leave catalogues so I occasionally buy stuff from them - but not Kleeneze beauty products. I haven’t used Oriflame. Are they taking on Kleeneze?

Willow500 Sun 10-Jun-18 05:47:44

No idea they were still in business - it must be over 35 years ago since I last heard of them!

MawBroon Sun 10-Jun-18 04:49:12

This wasn’t a sneaky ad for Oriflame was it?

MawBroon Sun 10-Jun-18 04:46:47

confused
Why on earth would you do that?

Mascara wands are made for their product and it sounds an unnecessary complication.

Acciaccatura Sat 09-Jun-18 23:46:58

Thanks for the tip, cherrytree. I might give that a whirl.
I feel a little suspicious that I'm not seeing any independent reviews of Oriflame. Not sure this type of selling has much of a future actually.

Cherrytree59 Sat 09-Jun-18 16:40:22

My tip would be to apply your new Oriflame mascara with your Liz Earle mascara brush
For everyday use I am using a thickish Boots mascara brush in a supermarket brand mascara.

My Kleeneze man called with his catalogue last month.confused

ninathenana Sat 09-Jun-18 16:15:36

I didn't realise they were still in buisness.

I did a course to become a rep about 30 yrs ago !! Never took it up though

Acciaccatura Sat 09-Jun-18 14:46:51

Sorry about the repeat. My first post got the message it had been denied!
